NCRI - Otto Bernhardt, President of the German Solidarity Committee for a Free Iran and member of the Konrad-Adenauer Foundation Board of Directors, sent a message of support for the upcoming Iranian opposition grand gathering scheduled for July 1st. He referred to the increasing number of executions under Hassan Rouhani’s presidency and emphasized, “There is a democratic opposition facing this regime.”
The National Council of Resistance of Iran has a clear agenda to realize human rights and credible democratic values… Iranians from across the globe will once again gather in Paris on July 1st. This is Iran’s true opposition, he said.
18 months ago a nuclear deal was signed with Iran and many promises were delivered to the people in this regard. However, as far as the people are concerned, nothing has improved; not in human rights, nor in the economy. Rouhani, who has recently been appointed to remain in his post, is part of the ruling system. Despite being considered a moderate in the West, the number of executions was far greater during his presidency, and Iran ranks first in the world in executions per capita.
Facing such a regime, however, there is a democratic opposition. The National Council of Resistance of Iran has a clear agenda for change in Iran in the course for human rights and credible democratic values. Mrs. Maryam Rajavi is the President-elect of this council. They seek positive change inside Iran. I hope the mullahs’ regime comes to an end soon, paving the path for the Tehran spring.
