On December 13, 2023, Iranian regime president Ebrahim Raisi is scheduled to attend the Global Refugee Forum 2023 in Geneva, Switzerland. Raisi is a notorious killer, mostly renowned for his pivotal role in the 1988 massacre of more than 30,000 political prisoners.
This year alone, Raisi’s government has carried out more than 700 executions. The regime has hanged more than 100 people in the past month alone.
The regime has increased repression of political opponents in the past month, including through executions, arrests, and heavy sentences. At the same time, the regime is fanning the flames of war in the region to create a smoke screen for its brutal repression of the population at home.
Iran’s regime is among the most brutal regimes in killing innocents, fomenting wars, and driving people from their homes. The president of this regime has no place in a forum on refugees.
Instead, Raisi belongs in the international criminal court, where he should be held to account for his crimes against humanity. This is why Iranians are gathering in Geneva on Wednesday to protest the presence of a mass murderer at this conference.
