We come together for International Women’s Day in a time of turmoil, but also resilience.
Resilience of women in face of tyranny and aggression from Iran to Ukraine, we are witnessing a generation of women who are determined to stand their ground to assure freedom for generations to come.
While the world is set to celebrate International Women’s Day next Tuesday, the plight of Iranian women in this day and age is heart-breaking. Of all the sectors in Iranian society, the women suffer the most at the hands of the misogynistic theocratic regime ruling over them.
On Monday, February 28, 2022, the United Nations Human Rights Council began their 49th session, via a virtual conference, to discuss and raise concerns over the critical human right situation in Iran. At the same time as the conference took place, a rally was taking place outside the UN’s European headquarters in Geneva, calling for action to be taking in regard to Iran’s 1988 massacre.

Political prisoner Maryam Akbari Monfared is currently serving her 13th year in prison. She was initially detained at Evin Prison before being transferred to Semnan Prison last year. She suffers from fatty liver disease, and as the prison itself has minimal facilities, she is unable to access and cook the food she needs in order to manage her condition, as directed by her doctor.
