Stockholm, Sweden—December 19, 2023: In the aftermath of the life sentence announcement for Hamid Noury, a notorious figure in the 1988 massacre, a demonstration was held in front of the Stockholm court. This event brought together freedom-loving Iranians, families of the 1988 massacre victims, and supporters of the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK).
According to international news agencies, on Tuesday December 19, the Svea Court of Appeal said in a statement it “affirmed the judgment” of 62-year-old Hamid Noury, who in July 2022 was given a life sentence “for grave breaches of international humanitarian law and murder.”
“Our assessment is that the prosecutor’s case is robust and overall compelling and that the district court was correct to find the prosecutors’ charges largely substantiated,” judge Robert Green said.
During this demonstration, a group of Iranians, including former political prisoners and the families of the martyrs of the 1988 massacre, and the PMOI’s lawyer, Mr. Kenneth Lewis, addressed the demonstrators. Demonstrators thanked and appreciated the lawyer Kenneth Lewis for winning this historic case.
Additionally, at the demonstration, Iranian Resistance supporters and families of the 1988 massacre martyrs called on the international community to prosecute leaders of the mullahs’ regime, especially Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, the mass murderer Ebrahim Raisi, and the regime’s judiciary chief, Gholam-Hossein Mohseni Ejei, for four decades of crimes against humanity and genocide.
Some slogans voiced by the demonstrators in front of the Swedish court were:
“We are the generation of 1988, victorious and invincible!”
“As justice seekers for the 30,000 martyrs of the 1988 massacre, we stand triumphant and resolute in this struggle and petition!”
“Ebrahim Raisi, the mass murderer, must face immediate trial!”
Iranians also carried pictures of the martyrs of the Iranian Revolution. They expressed their solidarity with the nationwide Iranian protests.
It is worth noting that on July 14, 2022, the former assistant prosecutor in Gohardasht prison, Hamid Noury (also known as Hamid Abbasi) sentenced to life imprisonment by the Swedish court on charges of being involved in a crime against humanity in the case of the 1988 massacre of thousands of political prisoners. Today’s ruling of the appeals court confirmed the executioner’s conviction for crimes against humanity and participation in the massacre of political prisoners in Iran in 1988.
