“No to Execution Tuesdays” Campaign Marks Its 68th Week of Protest in Iranian Prisons

68th Week of the “No to Executions Tuesdays” Campaign in Iran

On Tuesday, May 13, 2025, prisoners across Iran will engage in another coordinated hunger strike as part of the “No to Executions Tuesdays” campaign, now in its 68th consecutive week. The movement spans 41 prisons and is a response to the sharp rise in executions, particularly of political prisoners.

In a joint statement, inmates decried the recent death sentences issued against Amin (Peyman) Farahavar Gisavandani, a poet from Gilan, and Ehsan Faridi, a university student from Tabriz. Both were convicted of moharebeh (enmity against God) and baghi (armed rebellion) without access to independently chosen legal counsel.

Since the beginning of the Persian month of Ordibehesht (April 21, 2025), more than 96 executions have been reported—an average of at least four per day. The statement describes this as an “acceleration of executions” and calls on international human rights organizations to publicly identify and pursue legal action against judges responsible for such rulings.

“In every corner of this land, the flag of resistance to executions must be raised, and the voice of protest must be heard loud and clear,” the statement urges.

This week’s campaign also honors the late Barzan Mohammadi, a former political prisoner and campaign supporter who recently died in a tragic accident. His memory is commemorated by fellow prisoners participating in the protest.

Participating prisons include:

  • Qezel-Hesar (Units 3 and 4)

  • Evin (Women’s Ward, Wards 4 and 8)
