Gothenburg: Rally by MEK Supporters Amplifies ‘No to Executions’ Campaign

Gothenburg, Sweden – July 22, 2025
Gothenburg, Sweden – July 22, 2025

Gothenburg, Sweden – July 22, 2025: Supporters of the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) gathered in Gothenburg to show solidarity with the “No to Execution Tuesdays” campaign, marking the 42nd consecutive week of local participation in this global movement. The campaign responds to the Iranian regime’s ongoing wave of executions and widespread repression.

This 42nd rally in Gothenburg coincided with the 78th consecutive week of protests by political prisoners across Iran, a campaign that now spans 47 prisons. The growing resistance underscores the urgent need for international attention and action.

Participants in Gothenburg condemned the Iranian regime’s increasing use of death sentences and its intensified crackdown on political prisoners. They demanded the immediate annulment of all death sentences and the unconditional release of all political detainees.

Rally speakers strongly denounced threats to transfer Saeed Masouri—one of Iran’s longest-held political prisoners—to the notorious Zahedan Prison. They warned that such a move endangers his life and constitutes part of the regime’s broader campaign of intimidation, isolation, and psychological torture.

The demonstrators also highlighted the recent sentencing of three political activists—Farshad Etemadi-Far, Masoud Jamei, and Alireza Mardasi—to death after enduring two years of brutal torture. They were convicted of moharebeh (waging war on God) solely for their affiliation with the PMOI. Meanwhile, the regime’s Supreme Court rejected a fourth appeal for judicial review for two other political prisoners, Behrouz Ehsani and Mehdi Hassani, paving the way for their executions.

Protesters criticized the regime’s systematic policy of forcibly transferring political prisoners to remote, high-security prisons—a tactic often used as a precursor to executions or enforced disappearances. They drew chilling comparisons to the 1988 massacre of political prisoners, warning that “a crime is in progress.”

Freedom-loving Iranians in Gothenburg expressed their support for the call made by Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, President-elect of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), to expand participation in the “No to Executions” campaign.

The demonstrators also demanded that the leaders of the clerical regime be prosecuted for crimes against humanity in an international tribunal. They called on Sweden to end its policy of appeasement toward Tehran and to officially designate the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as a terrorist organization.

Participants reaffirmed the Iranian people’s demand for a democratic republic and their rejection of all forms of dictatorship—whether under the mullahs or through a return to the Shah’s rule. They emphasized the need to recognize the Iranian Resistance and the right of the Iranian people and MEK Resistance Units inside Iran to defend themselves in their struggle for freedom and justice.
