UK Lawmakers Warn of Imminent Executions of the PMOI Political Prisoners in Iran, Urge Immediate Action

Transfer to Notorious Execution Site

The British Committee for Iran Freedom (BCFIF) has raised urgent concern after reports that Iranian authorities transferred five political prisoners to Ghezel Hesar Prison, a facility infamous for mass executions.

According to human rights campaigners, the prisoners — Vahid Bani Amerian (33), Babak Alipour (34), Shahrokh Daneshvarkar (58), Mohammad Taghavi (59), and Pouya Ghobadi (33) — have been sentenced to death for alleged membership in the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) following trials condemned as grossly unfair.

Fears of Imminent Execution

The transfer has intensified fears of their imminent execution. It mirrors the recent cases of Behrouz Ehsani and Mehdi Hassani, political prisoners executed on similar charges.

Despite being behind bars, the five took part in the “No to Executions Tuesdays” campaign — an act of defiance that BCFIF says demonstrates their courage and hope for justice.

Warning of Another Massacre

BCFIF warns that the sharp rise in executions since the 2022 nationwide protests — especially in recent months — suggests preparations for another mass killing in Iran’s prisons. This would echo the 1988 massacre, when thousands of political prisoners were executed.

The committee says the regime is again using politically motivated charges and sham trials to eliminate organised opposition amid growing public dissent.

Call for UK and International Action

Describing the situation as “an urgent matter of life and death,” BCFIF is urging the UK Government to lead an international effort to stop the executions and hold Iranian authorities accountable.

The committee’s recommendations include:

  • Ending the regime’s culture of impunity.

  • Conditioning all diplomatic and economic relations on ending executions and freeing political prisoners.

  • Imposing targeted sanctions on judges and officials responsible, including Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.

Standing with the Iranian People

BCFIF insists that these executions will not weaken the determination to support the Iranian people and their organised resistance. The committee affirms that Iranians have the right to work toward a free and prosperous future.

Lord David Alton, Chair of the Joint House of Lords/House of Commons Human Rights Committee, also underscored the urgency of the situation in a post referencing BCFIF’s statement.
