Historical Roots of Student Day
Student Day in Iran, observed on December 7, commemorates the 1953 killing of three students by the Shah‘s forces at Tehran University following the coup against Prime Minister Mohammad Mossadegh. This event symbolizes enduring resistance against dictatorship. Today, MEK Resistance Units link this legacy to the ongoing fight against the mullahs’ regime, with placards in Isfahan and Zahedan stating, “University is the bastion of freedom against the mullahs and the shah from December 7, 1953, until today.”
Activities Across Iran, Especially in Tehran, Isfahan, Mashhad, Shiraz, and Kermanshah
Ahead of Student Day, PMOI Resistance Units have launched and expanded anti-regime activities in cities nationwide, particularly in the capital Tehran and major centers like Isfahan, Mashhad, Kermanshah and Shiraz. In Tehran, posters declare, “The protests of students in different universities is the nightmare of the mullahs’ regime,” and urge, “On Student Day, we must teach the regime’s repressive agents an unforgettable lesson.” In Mashhad and Isfahan, messages call for “Every university must become a center of rebellion and revolution.” Shiraz activities emphasize resilience, with placards proclaiming, “The uprising of students prove that Iran’s children will not be intimidated by the savagery of the IRGC,” and vowing students will rise “to overthrow the mullahs’ regime and establish democracy and the people’s sovereignty.” These efforts underscore the student movement’s intensifying role in pushing for democratic change.
Activities in Sistan and Baluchestan Province: Weekly Efforts in Zahedan
In Zahedan, the capital of Sistan and Baluchestan province, Resistance Units have carried out weekly anti-regime actions leading up to Student Day. Placards highlight universities’ historical role, noting, “The university is always at the forefront and in the 70s and 80s, it stood against the shah and the mullahs. It was a battlefield that delivered many martyrs.” Messages stress ongoing protests, stating, “The protests of students is a cry that must become stronger every day,” and reiterate, “Every university must become a center of rebellion.” Additional posters declare, “The protests of students in different universities is the nightmare of the mullahs’ regime,” while honoring the pivotal role of students in past struggles, including the 1988 massacre of 30,000 political prisoners, many of whom were students. These weekly activities amplify local resistance against the regime’s oppression.
Honoring Sacrifices and Exposing Regime Vulnerabilities
The campaign honors past sacrifices, contrasting with the regime’s failed attempts to co-opt Student Day through staged events disrupted by students. Messages across cities affirm the unbreakable spirit of Iran’s youth, exposing the regime’s weaknesses and humiliations faced by officials.
The Path Forward: A Call to Overthrow Tyranny
The Resistance Units’ bold actions signal an escalating nationwide struggle, reclaiming Student Day’s spirit to inspire a new generation. By positioning universities as key battlegrounds, these efforts continue the fight from 1953 to today, aiming for a free, democratic Iran free from clerical and monarchial dictatorships.
