Iran’s 99th “No to Execution Tuesday” — 55 Prisons Rise as Death Sentences Surge

The 99th Week of the No to Execution Tuesdays Campaign in 55 Prisons Across Iran
The 99th Week of the No to Execution Tuesdays Campaign in 55 Prisons Across Iran

Tuesday, December 16, 2025, marks the 99th consecutive week of the “ “No to Execution Tuesdays” ” campaign — an enduring act of defiance led by political prisoners across 55 prisons in Iran. This week’s protests coincide with the International Day of Reconciliation, a day intended to represent peace — yet in Iran, the regime has tightened its grip on death and repression.

The campaign’s latest statement denounces the reaffirmation of death sentences for six political prisoners in Qezel Hesar Prison and a new death verdict for Ramin Zeleh, a Kurdish political prisoner in Naqadeh. At least 67 prisoners were executed in the past week alone, bringing the total since November 22 to 271 executions — evidence of a systematic policy of killing that shreds the very concept of justice.

Reconciliation Impossible Without Justice

While the world marks a day dedicated to reconciliation, Iran’s rulers accelerate executions to silence dissent. The statement declares that “execution is the absolute negation of justice and the denial of any possibility for social reconciliation.”

For nearly one hundred weeks, the campaign has turned prisons into platforms of peaceful resistance, defending the right to life against a regime that has institutionalized the gallows as a political weapon.

Reaffirmed Death Sentences and New Threats

During the past week, Branch 26 of Tehran’s sham Revolutionary Court reaffirmed the death sentences of six political prisoners in Qezel Hesar:
Babak Alipour, Pouya Ghobadi, Vahid Bani Amerian, Akbar (Shahrokh) Daneshvarkar, Mohammad Taghavi, and Abolhassan Montazer — all among the members of the No to Execution Tuesdays campaign.

Meanwhile, the same machinery of repression sentenced Ramin Zeleh, a political prisoner held in Naqadeh, to death on the charge of armed rebellion (baghy).

The campaign also reported that Ehsan Rostami, a well-known cultural activist, was charged with baghy and transferred to solitary confinement in Evin Prison on December 11, raising concern about heightened pressure and possible issuance of a death sentence.

A Policy of Elimination and Fear

The arrests of participants at the memorial for the late Khosro Alikordi further demonstrate the regime’s persistent policy of intimidation and elimination. These arrests follow the suspicious death of Alikordi — a justice-seeking lawyer remembered as a voice for the families of the executed — whose legacy continues to inspire the campaign from inside and outside prison walls.

55 Prisons Join Week 99 of the Campaign

Despite relentless executions and repression, prisoners across Iran continue to unify each Tuesday in defiance. On this 99th week, hunger strikes and coordinated acts of protest are taking place in 55 prisons, including Evin, Qezel Hesar, Karaj Central, Fardis, Greater Tehran Penitentiary, Qarchak, Sheiban, Sepidar, Shiraz Adelabad, Zahedan, Tabriz, Urmia, Mahabad, and dozens more across the country.

Each act of resistance — each shared meal refused — is a collective stand against state-sanctioned killing.

Week 99 — The Voice of Life Against the Machinery of Death

The “No to Execution Tuesdays” campaign reaffirms that reconciliation cannot exist alongside executions. It calls upon the Iranian people, international human-rights advocates, and global institutions to echo the voices of those facing death sentences — to press for justice, to expose the executions, and to support the families of the victims.

After 99 weeks, the campaign continues to turn Iran’s darkest chambers into spaces of unity, truth, and defiance.
