Hunger Strike Continues for the 128th Consecutive Week

The “No to Execution Tuesdays” campaign has entered its 128th consecutive week, with political and ideological prisoners in 57 prisons across Iran continuing their weekly hunger strike in protest against the growing wave of executions and death sentences.

In this week’s statement, the campaign strongly condemned the issuance of new death sentences against political prisoners and warned that the reappointment of Judiciary Chief Gholamhossein Mohseni-Ejei poses a grave threat to prisoners and human rights in Iran. The campaign also urged international organizations and the global community to take immediate action to stop executions and hold the Iranian regime accountable for its systematic violations of the right to life.

Statement Commemorates July 9 Student Uprising

On the eve of July 9, marking the anniversary of the 1999 student uprising, the campaign paid tribute to those who lost their lives in the struggle for freedom and equality. The statement recalled the violent suppression of peaceful student protests and the bloody attack on university dormitories, describing the anniversary as a reminder of the regime’s long record of repression.

New Death Sentences and Escalating Repression

According to the campaign, at least 15 prisoners have been executed since June 22, 2026, while several political and ordinary prisoners have recently received death sentences.

Among the latest cases is Arghavan Fallahi, a political prisoner held in the women’s ward of Evin Prison, who was sentenced to death by the notorious Judge Salavati following what the campaign described as an unfair trial conducted under pressure from security agencies.

The statement also highlighted death sentences issued against several detainees arrested during the January 2026 nationwide protests, including Kamal Khan-Bahaei, imprisoned in Choobindar Prison in Qazvin. Another prisoner, Vahid Khan-Sanami, currently held in Greater Tehran Prison, was likewise sentenced to death following what campaign members described as a politically motivated and unfair judicial process intended to intimidate society.

Mohseni-Ejei’s Reappointment Raises Human Rights Concerns

The campaign warned that the recent reappointment of Gholamhossein Mohseni-Ejei as head of the judiciary further increases the risk facing prisoners. According to the statement, Mohseni-Ejei has played a central role in the widespread use of capital punishment and has overseen one of the highest execution rates in recent decades.

The campaign stressed that death sentences in Iran are frequently issued behind closed doors following interrogations involving psychological and physical coercion, denying defendants access to fair and transparent judicial proceedings.

Call for International Action

The campaign called on the United Nations, international human rights organizations, and defenders of human rights worldwide to respond urgently to the deteriorating situation in Iran’s prisons.

It urged the international community to pressure the Iranian authorities to uphold internationally recognized standards of due process, particularly by ensuring public and fair trials in cases carrying the death penalty and by halting all executions.

Campaign Reaffirms Its Independent and Inclusive Nature

The statement emphasized that the “No to Execution Tuesdays” campaign belongs to all prisoners participating in the weekly hunger strike, regardless of their political or ideological affiliations.

Campaign organizers expressed appreciation for supporters who continue producing anti-execution content while explaining that the campaign’s official platforms primarily focus on publishing weekly statements and preserving an archive of the movement’s activities in order to maintain its independent and inclusive character.

On Tuesday, July 7, 2026, prisoners in 57 prisons across Iran took part in the 128th week of the “No to Execution Tuesdays” hunger strike, reaffirming their collective opposition to executions and capital punishment.
