Bern, Switzerland — August 15, 2026 — Supporters of the Iranian Resistance gathered in Bern to commemorate the anniversary of the 1988 massacre of political prisoners in Iran.

The event called for justice for those killed during the 1988 massacre and for all victims who lost their lives in the Iranian people’s struggle for freedom. Participants also stressed the importance of preserving the memory of those who sacrificed their lives in the pursuit of freedom and human rights.

At the dignified event, participants paid tribute to the victims’ ultimate sacrifice by laying flowers before photographs of the victims of the 1988 massacre, those who lost their lives during the uprisings, and political prisoners.

They also paid tribute by laying a flower before the photograph of Hossein Shariati, a longtime member of the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK), who recently passed away after an illness, honoring his decades of tireless struggle for the freedom of the Iranian people and the many sacrifices he made along the way.

Remembering the 1988 Massacre and Ongoing Human Rights Abuses

The exhibition highlighted what organizers described as the Iranian regime’s continuing human rights violations while commemorating one of the darkest chapters in Iran’s modern history.

Participants remembered the 1988 massacre, during which more than 30,000 political prisoners—many of them supporters and members of the PMOI—were reportedly executed.

The exhibition also drew attention to the regime’s violent suppression of the January 2026 nationwide uprising. According to figures released by the PMOI, thousands of protesters were reportedly killed during the crackdown.

Renewed Calls for Freedom, Democracy, and Accountability

Speakers and participants stressed that, despite decades of repression and executions, the Iranian people and their organized Resistance continue to seek freedom and democracy.

They highlighted the activities of the Resistance Units inside Iran and reaffirmed their rejection of both the former monarchy and the current clerical regime.
