Public Executions in Isfahan’s Alikhani Square
According to the NCRI, Abolfazl Sepahi and Amirhossein Safari were publicly hanged in Alikhani Square on July 28. People who witnessed the executions reportedly protested by chanting “Dishonorable, dishonorable,” while security forces attacked the crowd and fired tear gas.
The NCRI statements say the five executed prisoners were among those arrested during the January 2026 uprising in connection with a case known as the “Alikhani Square” case.
Iran’s judiciary has accused protesters in the case of involvement in the deaths of four State Security Force officers during the January uprising. The charges cited by the judiciary include Moharebeh (enmity against God) and Efsad-fel-Arz (corruption on Earth), as well as allegations involving firearms, Molotov cocktails, damage to a police station, and blocking streets.

Seven Other Prisoners Face Imminent Execution
The latest NCRI statement says seven other prisoners in the Alikhani Square case remain in imminent danger of execution:
- Alireza Sepahi, 24
- Shervin Bagherian, 18
- Amir-Hossein Ebrahimi, 19
- Amir-Hossein Maleki, 19
- Ali Dashti, 19
- Abolfazl Ebrahimi, 18
- Alireza Reisi, 21
The NCRI says the prisoners were denied the right to choose their own lawyers during the proceedings, and that even court-appointed lawyers were denied access to the case files.
The case has therefore drawn renewed concern over the imminent execution of several young prisoners, including individuals who were 18 when arrested or sentenced.
The NCRI has called on the United Nations Security Council and international human rights organizations to take immediate action to halt executions and save the lives of prisoners remaining on death row.
