MEK supporters’ rally in Paris supports Iran protests
Expat Iranians, as well as supporters of the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) and the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), held a rally in Paris on Tuesday, the anniversary of 1979 anti-monarchic revolution, to support the Iran Protests.
Those demonstrating also echoed the call made by NCRI President-elect Maryam Rajavi for the international community to acknowledge the fact that the regime ruling Iran doesn’t represent the Iranian people and recognize the right of the Iranian people to overthrow this regime.
In line with the other Free Iranian rallies happening around the world, the Paris rally paid tribute to those people who made the ultimate sacrifice to topple the Shah’s dictatorship in 1979 and those who have sacrificed their lives since in the struggle for freedom and democracy against the mullahs.
They further paid tribute to leading MEK official Mousa Khiabani and resistance heroine Ashraf Rajavi, who was also the wife of Resistance leader Massoud Rajavi, who were both murdered by the regime in 1981.
Also present at the protest were:
- André Chassaigne, President of the Democratic and Republican Left group
- Philippe Gosselin and Frédéric Reiss from the French Republican party
- Michèle de Vaucouleurs and Brahim Hammouch from the Democratic Movement
- Former Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs Alain Vivien
- Mayor of Paris’ 1st District Jean-François Legaret
The first five of these lawmakers are members of the Parliamentary Committee for a Democratic Iran (CPID), chaired by de Vaucouleurs, which has helped publicize the current situation in Iran in the National Assembly. The CPID has further echoed the Iranian people’s calls for freedom, secularism, and democracy, which are represented today by the National Council of Resistance of Iran.
The rally’s speakers and participants condemned the Iranian regime for its brutal crackdown on protesters during the nationwide Iran protests in November 2019 and January 2020. They also paid tribute to the 1,500 peaceful protesters killed by the regime during the uprising.
They further echoed the Iranian people’s call for the overthrow of the regime by chanting slogans like “Down with [the] dictator, whether the Shah or the [Supreme] Leader.”
The Paris rally participants urged the international community, especially France and the European Union, to condemn the Iranian regime for its numerous crimes and stand with the Iranian people and their desire for the establishment of a democratic government. After all, the Iranian people will fight until they win, wouldn’t it be better if the EU stood on the right side of history?
