US House: resolution to condemn Iran regime and support Iran people

The US House of Representatives has revealed a resolution seeking to counter Iran’s threats and support the Iranian people’s quest for freedom.

This resolution (House Resolution 374), which was unveiled in a virtual conference held by the Organization of the Iranian American Communities (OIAC) and attended by senior US lawmakers, enjoys bipartisan support from 220 co-sponsors from 41 states and 12 committees including the House Committees of Appropriations, Armed Services, Homeland Security, Foreign Relations, and Select Committee on Intelligence.

It has been sent to Secretary of State Mike Pompeo with the policy suggestion of tackling the regime and supporting the people by supporting the Iranian Resistance, which would not require a military intervention or a mass influx of cash, and would bolster a group that is systematically oppressed by the regime.

Maryam Rajavi, the president-elect of the National Council of Resistance of Iran, sent a video message to the conference praising the resolution and saying that it “reflects the American people’s support for Iranian people’s desire for a free Iran”.

She said: “[I am] delighted that a majority of lawmakers have condemned the terrorist activities of the mullahs’ regime through its so-called diplomatic missions and terrorist-diplomats. The Iranian Resistance commends the call to hold the mullahs accountable and to adopt decisive measures, such as the closure of the regime’s centres of espionage and terror in Europe, including in Albania.”

Congressman Brad Sherman (D-CA), a co-sponsor of the H. Res. 374, said that it was more important than ever to “stand with Iranian people for a non-nuclear, secular and democratic Iran” and condemn the regime’s violent crackdown on peaceful protesters.

Congressman Tom McClintock (R-CA), another co-sponsor of this resolution said: “[The] regime’s destabilizing behaviour has continued, and acts of terrorism will be addressed. Iranian Resistance has been a target of Iranian terrorism. We condemn these terror acts.”

While Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee (D-TX) told the conference that she supports the freedom-loving people in Iran who are peacefully protesting for democracy and freedom.
