Remarks by Klajda Gjosha at the Trans-Atlantic Summit on Iran Policy; September 18, 2020

Klajda Gjosha: I think it is time for the international community as well, like Albania did, to respond with concrete measures to this regime which is dangerous, not only for Iran itself but is actually a real danger for the region over there and for the world.

On the brink of the U.N. General Assembly’s annual session, an online international summit, entitled “Trans-Atlantic Summit on Iran Policy, Time to Hold the Iranian Regime Accountable,” was held September 18. The Summit brought together Iranians in various countries around the world from 10,000 locations. Ms. Klajda Gjosha former Albanian Minister of European Integration, joined the Summit.

Among the personalities who addressed the summit were 30 bipartisan U.S. lawmakers from the House and the Senate. Personalities including:

Senator Ted Cruz, Senator Roy Blunt, Senator Marco Rubio, Senator Bob Menendez, and dignitaries like Rudy Giuliani, former New York City mayor, General James Jones, National Security Advisor to President Obama (2009-2010), Newt Gingrich, 50th Speaker of the United States House of Representatives, Joseph Lieberman, former U.S. Senator, as well as a delegation of U.K. lawmakers, and Ambassador Giulio Terzi, former Foreign Minister of Italy.

Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, the keynote speaker of the summit

Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, the President-elect of the NCRI was the keynote speaker of the summit. She paid tribute to Navid Afkari, a rebellious national hero recently executed by the regime. Mrs. Rajavi said: “Faced with executions and massacres, the people of Iran urge the U.N. and the U.N. Security Council, in particular, to restore snapback sanctions stipulated in the six U.N. resolutions against the clerical regime in Iran.”

She continued,” Otherwise, Khamenei will continue to ravage the nation as his regime’s survival depends on murder and suppression. If Khamenei were to stop executions, he would lose control of the situation, and uprisings simmering in the depths of Iranian society would erupt and overthrow the mullahs’ religious fascism.”

At the summit, speakers demanded justice for over 30,000 MEK and other activists, political prisoners massacred in 1988. Also, they urged an end to the appeasement policy and requested those who ordered and carried out this great crime, who currently occupy high positions in the regime, to be brought to justice.

Klajda Gjosha former Albanian Minister of European Integration joined to the summit. In her remarks, Ms. Gjosha said, “I think it is time for the international community as well, like Albania did, to respond with concrete measures to this regime which is dangerous, not only for Iran itself but is actually a real danger for the region over there and for the world.”

Klajda Gjosha former Albanian Minister of European Integration

Madame Rajavi, thank you so much for giving me this opportunity to be here with you and to have this speech in front of so many people, so many important people all around the world that really support Iran and the state that is really failing right now. It’s a pleasure to take part in this transatlantic summit on Iran policy. I followed carefully the fruitful discussions so far, and I’m glad to see that people have joined this summit from all over the world while touching some of the most important issues, most of the sensitive issues for all of us, like human rights, freedom, democracy and justice.

And Iran is actually one of the best examples of a country which fights every day, every single day for all of these matters. It is unacceptable what has happened to Iran people through these years. Executions, tortures, violation of human rights. Thus, we stand very determined on the side of the Iranian people. And Albania is a country which has opened the doors and created a home for many of the Mojahedin who are seeking still for their voice to be heard around the world and for their real truth to be recognized to all of us.

I’m one of those people who have visited their home. I am one of those people who have visited before Madame Rajavi. And I really support what she’s doing for Iran, for her people. I’m really surprised and I really feel her love for her country. And I appreciate this, I truly appreciate this. I think it is time for the international community as well, like Albania did, to respond with concrete measures to this regime which is dangerous, not only for Iran itself but is actually a real danger for the region over there and for the world.

We call on the UN as well to investigate the 1988 massacre. There is need to hold accountable the people over there who did this massacre for Iranian people. There is a need to end impunity. The international community should also take actions to stop the executions of political prisoners in Iran. This is a regime which kills the opposition, the different voices. It kills the truth in order to stay in power. And we believe that Regime change is the only hope for the Iranian people to be able to live in freedom. Iran is a wonderful country, rich country which deserves a government that works for the people.
