Over 500 Iranian-American Scholars and Professionals to US President: Keep the IRGC on the Terror List

On April 12, 2022, the Iran Azadi [Freedom] website reported on a letter from hundreds of Iranian-American experts to US President Joe Biden.

The Iranian-American scholars and professionals wrote to President Biden to keep the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) on the US State Department’s list of Foreign Terrorist Organizations (FTO).

The letter, prepared by the Iranian-American community, emphasizes that the Revolutionary Guards are Tehran’s lever for terrorism abroad and repression of people on the streets of Iran.

The signatories of the letter, copies of which were sent to US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken and congressional lawmakers, stated that the Iranian regime’s request for the US to remove the IRGC from its list of foreign terrorist organizations was not accidental. They added that the delisting of the IRGC is against the will and interest of the Iranian people and a direct threat to the progress of democracy.

Iranian experts: The removal of the IRGC from the list is a disregard for the Iranian nation

The letter noted that the IRGC, without the slightest sign of goodwill, played the opposite role in creating naval proxy terrorist units, using drones for terrorist operations, and financing terrorism worldwide.

“There is no distinction between the IRGC or the Quds force. They operate as one unit to fund, promote and implement Khamenei’s agenda,” said Kazem Cameroonian, a professor and one of the main organizers of the letter.
