Excerpts of the speech of Congresswoman Young Kim, Representative for California’s 39th District, at the Free Iran 2022, is as follows:

Hi. I’m Congresswoman Young Kim, Representative for California’s 39th District. I’m honored to be with you virtually for the 2022 Free Iran World Summit.

For over 40 years, the Iranian people have suffered under a regime that rules with no regard for its citizens’ welfare and basic human rights.

Meanwhile, its elites continue to enrich themselves, develop nuclear weapons, and fund terrorism and proxy wars across the region at the expense of economic opportunity and productivity for their nation.

I condemn the Iranian regime’s human rights abuses, including state sponsored terrorism and mass killings against peaceful protesters.

A government that acts in this despicable way against its own people is neither worthy of power nor respect. My heart breaks for those of you that have lost friends, family, and other loved ones. Their memory will not be in vain.

I stand with those peacefully protesting for their freedom. America, along with the people of Iran, will continue to push for the same freedom that the Iranian people are calling out for.

I share your faith that better days for Iran are on the horizon, and I thank Maryam Rajavi and all who are gathered here for bringing hope for freedom and democracy.

As a member of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs, I am proud to cosponsor House Resolution 118, which is a bipartisan resolution that expresses U.S. support for the Iranian people’s desire for a democratic and nonnuclear Iranian Republic free from state violence.

I will continue to advocate for policies that pressure and deter the Iranian government and its elites, and I won’t stop working with you until we achieve a brighter future for the Iranian people. Thank you.
