Excerpts of the speech of the US Senator Roy Blunt, From Missouri, at the Free Iran 2022, is as follows:

Hi. I’m Senator Roy Blunt. I’m honored to join you today in strong support of a free, democratic, and non-nuclear Iran. I’ve spoken to this convention in years past, but this year in particular feels more important to speak out against repressive governments, military aggression, and destabilizing behavior by this regime or any other.

It’s been one year since Ebraham Raisi was elected president of Iran. His elections continued the violent repression and the arrest of citizens who dare protest the regime’s abuses. The Iranian government has also continued its military aggression. Attacks by Iranian proxies against the US. And our allies have increased. Recently, support for global terrorism and other repressive regimes has continued.

And Iran’s leaders continue to pursue a nuclear weapon, getting closer every day. These acts are destabilizing to the Iranian people, to the region, and to the world. And they make us all feel and make us all less safe.

The Iranian people know that there’s an alternative to this. There’s an alternative to economic collapse and alternative to hunger, and alternative to human rights abuses and alternative to military aggression.

At a time when more and more people around the world are fighting for their freedom, the fight for freedom in Iran is even more significant. It’s even more important that we voice our support for those efforts here in the United States as well.

I’m continually encouraged by the brave view of the Iranian people to take the streets and protest the regime, particularly young Iranians in the Senate, I’m going to continue to work to ensure that sanctions on the Iranian regime are kept in place to hold its leaders accountable for their actions.
