Sen. Benjamin Cardin supports MEK’s annual Free Iran rally at Ashraf 3

Sen. Benjamin Cardin (D-MD), Member, Foreign Relations Committee

Sen. Benjamin Cardin: This year’s Free Iran Convention in Tirana, Albania… provides an unparalleled opportunity for people to come together in support and recognition of human rights and also advocate for positive, democratic change in Iran. Since the revolution of 1979, countless Iranians have been crippled and abused under the leadership of an oppressive regime.

I am proud that the United States, other nations, and organizations such as yours continue to stand up for the freedom of the people of Iran. However, the devolution of rights and the worsening of life in Iran shows that there is still much more we can do to deliver liberty and justice. Thanks to your organization’s efforts, the challenges facing Iranians have been brought to the attention of the international community.

Sen. Benjamin Cardin added: I commend each of you for all you have done to strengthen ties among the proponents for human rights and for all you have done to fight for a government that represents the will of its people.

Annual MEK rally in Ashraf 3, Albania

On Saturday, a large crowd gathered in Ashraf 3, Albania, home to Iranian opposition group People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK), to hold the annual Free Iran rally of the Iranian resistance. The event was the fourth installment in a series of events held at Ashraf 3.

Former PMOI/MEK Secretary-General Fahimeh Arvani delivered the opening remarks at the Free Iran rally, describing how Ashraf 3 and the Iranian Resistance movement has been able to continue its struggle thanks to its perseverance through the years.

Iranian opposition President Maryam Rajavi has led this movement and today we are witnessing the regime in Iran on the brink of overthrow,” Ms. Arvani said. “I would like to thank all the distinguished guests with us here today and those who couldn’t join us for all their support in all these years.”
