Remarks by Bassam Al-Omoush–Free Iran Global Summit, July 17, 2020

Bassam Al-Omoush, former Jordanian Minister and former Ambassador to Iran joined the Online Free Iran Global Summit. In his remarks, Amb. Al-Omoush said, “The [mullahs] lie to the Iranian people, lie to the region, lie about Islam, and lie about Palestine.”

The Iranian opposition coalition National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) managed to hold this year’s annual gathering virtually on July 17. Given the novel coronavirus pandemic and its restriction, many dignitaries commended the NCRI’s ability and determination for connecting 30,000 locations to Ashraf-3, home to members of the Iranian opposition People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK).

Here is the speech of Amb. Al-Omoush:

Iran has a long and proud history. But from the first day [the Islamic Republic’s founder Ruhollah] Khomeini came to power, he declared its intent to export its “revolution.” This was not just a simple slogan; it has been implemented.

The Iranian regime entered Iraq, Lebanon, Yemen, Syria, and even peaceful countries, like Jordan, and tried to set up armed militias. They intervened in Morocco, in Algeria, and in Sudan.

Iran is a rich country, but its wealth is spent on Hezbollah and the Houthis. The Iranian people are more deserving of this money.

How would the Iranian people benefit from nuclear weapons? This is a journey into the abyss.

The regime calls itself religious, but kills children in Syria and Yemen, among other places. Islam has nothing to do with these practices. Islam advocates production, rebuilding and providing assistance to our neighbors. Who chose Khamenei? Who chose Khomeini? We do not accept anyone to speak in the name of God.

This regime must not stay in power. We must raise our voice and Arab governments must exert pressure and take a stand.

They lie to the Iranian people, lie to the region, lie about Islam, and lie about Palestine.
