On Tuesday, Iranian opposition leader Maryam Rajavi addressed a conference on Europe’s Iran policy at France’s National Assembly, where she condemned the regime’s human rights abuses and terrorism.

The conference, entitled “Iran: repression, belligerence, need for a new approach”, was organised by the Parliamentary Committee for a Democratic Iran (CPID) and focused on the current situation in Iran, as well as the need to adopt a new attitude towards this regime because the appeasement policy has failed.

Opposition leader Maryam Rajavi, who is the president-elect of the National Council of the Resistance of Iran, stressed that the regime takes foreign nationals hostage and uses its embassies and diplomats to commit terrorist attacks in the West, which meant that the West should adopt a stronger policy to tackle the Regime.

Opposition leader Maryam Rajavi said: “The regime understands only the language of firmness. The ruling mullahs consider silence, leniency and calls for negotiation as signs of weakness. While they try to make it appear as though Europe needs mediation, they are the ones in need of it. They have been emboldened because of inaction towards their regime’s outlaw behaviour and belligerence.”

She noted that the only way to achieve democracy in Iran is for the West to support the Iranian people who want to overthrow this regime because there is no possibility that the Iranian Regime will moderate any of its aggressive behaviours. This is because the Regime is too weak to change; any devastating from the norm would see it collapse.

French parliamentarian André Chassaigne and Yannick Favennec, a member of the Defense Committee of the French Parliament and Vice-Chairman of the CPID, agreed with Rajavi on the need to support the Iranian people, while Philippe Gosselin, co-Chair of the CPID praised Rajavi’s 10-point plan for a future Iran.

At the same time as this conference, the Resistance organised an exhibition about the massacre of 30,000 political prisoners in Iran in 1988 on the Esplanade des Invalides, which is next to the National Assembly. The massacre, which is the biggest crime against humanity of its kind since WW2, mainly targeted Resistance members.

Rajavi also made a speech at the exhibition, where she hailed the martyrs of the regime.

Opposition leader Maryam Rajavi said:  “Really, how could the executioners hang thousands of human beings during that heinous massacre in 1988? When the time came and they had to make a choice, these [Resistance] members and combatants smiled, and, shoulder-to-should, resolutely walked to the gallows. They were blindfolded because the light of their eyes and their conviction in their ideal terrified and shocked the enemy. All of us have a profound feeling deep down in our hearts for every one of these honourable martyrs.”
