Iran: Over 50,300 Coronavirus Deaths, Due to Mullahs’ Inaction

Iran: Over 50,300 Coronavirus Deaths, Due to Mullahs’ Inaction

Over 50,300 people in Iran gave died from the Coronavirus due to the mullahs’ inaction, according to the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) on Monday.

On Saturday , Iran’s Deputy Health Minister Iraj Harirchi said: “Let’s not think that the death toll of 5,000, eight or nine thousand, though each one of them is important, [is high], though if we are careless, unfortunately, [we will reach] figures of 10,000, 15,000 and God forbid the number may reach two or three hundred thousand.”

The figures have already reached the numbers spoken about by Harirchi, but even by the regime’s official death toll, Coronavirus has killed more Iranians that the eight-year-long war with Iraq and it is because of the mullahs’ inaction. Even state media and officials have said that this is far from the end with a second spike likely to kill even more people.

The Governor of Kermanshah said the second peak was already underway and far “worse than the first peak”, while the president of the Medical Sciences University in Kurdistan said the second peak there was “critical”.

The number of new infections reported across the country over just the previous 24 hours from Saturday to Sunday backs this up:

  • Tehran: Coronavirus infections rose 2% overnight, bringing the known infection rate to 12%, according to Alireza Zali, head of the National Coronavirus Combat Taskforce
  • Khuzestan: 875 new infections were recorded, reaching a total of 19,081, according to the spokesperson for Ahvaz Medical Sciences University
  • Kerman: 67 more positive tests reported in south Kerman, where medical care provisions are “inadequate”, according to the president of the Medical Sciences University in Jiroft

Maryam Rajavi, the President of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), said: “The catastrophe could have been prevented as [with] the loss of so many lives. The fatality figures in Iran, even the official figures, cannot be compared with other Middle East countries, whose economic and social infrastructures are far weaker than Iran…. [Supreme Leader Ali] Khamenei and [President Hassan] Rouhani are directly responsible for the increasing number of victims and must be held to account. Instead of paying the salaries of workers and hardworking people for a few months from the vast resources of the economic cartels controlled by Khamenei and the IRGC, they have sent the people of Iran back to work and to the Coronavirus altar of sacrifice.”
