More Than 70 Members of Parliament Across Europe Call for an End to Iran Regime Terrorist Acts on European Soil

Parliamentarians said “practical warnings should be given to Tehran, such as the closure of its embassies and the expulsion of its ambassadors and diplomats.”

In joint statement more than 70 members of national parliament from various European countries demanded a tougher policy in dealing with the increasing terrorism activities of the Iranian regime in Europe.

Today, an Iranian diplomat and three other agents affiliated with Iran’s Ministry of Information and Security (MOIS) are currently in prison in Belgium and will be prosecuted in a trial set for 27 November for their role in a bomb plot against the annual gathering of the Iranian opposition, National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) in support of a free and democratic Iran in Paris on 30 June 2018.

Last week Reuters News Agency revealed that Assadollah Assadi, the Iranian regime’s diplomat “warned authorities of possible retaliation by unidentified groups if he is found guilty, according to a police document.” Accordingly, “Assadi told police that armed groups in Iraq, Lebanon, Yemen and Syria, as well as in Iran, were interested in the outcome of his case and would be “watching from the sidelines to see if Belgium would support them or not.”

It is outrageous and an act of blackmail by a state for its diplomat to make such direct terrorist threats. European government should not remain silence in the face of the Iranian regime explicit resort to terrorism.
According to media reports, investigation has reached the conclusion that the terrorist plot against Free Iran gathering, where over one hundred parliamentarians from across Europe and several dozen dignitaries from all over the world were present, was on behalf of Iranian regime and not a personal initiative of Assadi.”

Since 2018 parallel with growing anti-government protests inside Iran, there has been an alarming surge in Iran state-sponsored terrorist plots in Europe. The prime target for the terrorist plot on 30 June 2018 was Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, the President-elect of the NCRI. If these terrorist operations had succeeded, they would have undoubtedly left hundreds killed and many more wounded including prominent international political figures.
The International Committee of Parliamentarians for a Democratic Iran, together with the British Committee for Iran Freedom (BCFIF), have initiated a statement which sets out a series of policy recommendations for the European Governments to implement in order to protect Europe’s security and pre-empt, counter and stop Iran’s state terrorism on European soil.
