Brussels, 22 February 2021: Iranians, supporters of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) and Peoples Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) held a rally in Schuman Square, Brussels, urging European leaders to adopt a firm policy vis-à-vis the Iranian regime.  Participants also echoed the Iranian people’s desire and voice for regime change.

They urged the European Union to end the appeasement policy toward the terrorist mullahs ruling Iran. Following the conviction of Iran’s diplomat-terrorist Assadollah Assadi on February 4, it was proved to everyone that Iran’s ruling uses its diplomatic missions, as well as the EU’s inaction to target Iranian dissident and spread terrorism in Europe.

Assadi had attempted to bomb NCRI’s “Free Iran” gathering in 2018 in Paris.

Iranians finally urged the EU leaders to:

Designate Iran’s Ministry of Intelligence and Security (MOIS)and the Revolutionary Guards (IRGC) as terrorist organizations. Iranian regime’s MOIS agents must be expelled from European countries.

Given that the Iranian regime has continued its quest for Nuclear weapons, in parallel with increasing human rights violations, and carried out terrorist activities abroad, the EU must facilitate the reimposition of 6 United Nation Security Council (UNSC) resolutions.

Paolo Casaca, a former member of the European Parliament and a supporter of the Resistance of Iran, appeared at the demonstrators and expressed his solidarity with the Iranian people and their resistance, It is the first time that an Iranian regime diplomat had been convicted for terrorism in a European court, and that Europe should end the appeasement policy towards the Iranian regime for terrorism on European soil and for violating the nuclear deal.

Paolo Casaca, a former MEP from Portugal

Dr. Massoud Kashefi, a supporter of the National Council of Resistance of Iran pointed to the historic ruling of the Belgian court and concluded that all European and American politicians have found that with the JCPOA 2015 they cannot prevent regional interference and The regime’s missiles program. The Iranian resistance will not allow appeasers to open negotiations for their own personal interests on the human rights of the people of Iran, he added. The security of Iran, the Middle East and the world peace will not be achieved by wasting time and meeting with blackmail killers.

Mr. Serge de Patoul from the Belgian Committee of Parelmanterians and Mayors for a Democratic Iran gave his speech too. He also pointed to the regime’s terrorism in Europe and the decisiveness of the Belgian court for conviction of the regime’s diplomat, saying that any relationship with the regime should be subject to a halt to the regime’s terrorism on European soil.

Mr. Mark Demesmaeker (Belgian senator) and Mr. Gobelt (a member of the Belgian Parliament) also sent letters to the Belgian foreign Minister, Mrs. Sophie Wilmes, and to the European Union. They sent these letters to be read on the rally to express their supports of the Iranian community and supporters of the National Council of Resistance in Brussels, where they raised concerns about holding an economic summit with the Iranian regime after the conviction of its diplomat, and found such relations unjustifiable. In their messages, the Belgian Senator and MP express that the regime’s terrorism includes not only one individual but also the Iranian regime in total, and that the order was issued by the regime’s highest officials, including Ali Khamenei, Hassan Rouhani, Javad Zarif, and Mahmoud Alavi, and that it is impossible that Iranian regime’s Minister of foreign affairs was not involved in the terrorist plot.

Mr. Mark Demesmaeker (Belgian senator) and Mr. Gobelt (a member of the Belgian Parliament) also sent letters to the Belgian foreign Minister, Mrs. Sophie Wilmes, and to the European Union.

Background:

In its report on February 19, the Belgian Security Service the VSSE concluded Assadi is an MOIS security officer using diplomatic cover in the Iranian embassy in Vienna. Assadi is affiliated with “Department 312” of the MOIS and is an officer who works with human sources (spies and agents). He was the operational commander of the bomb plot against the annual rally of the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) in Villepinte, located north of Paris. The security service identified Assadi as the agent who controlled Amir Saadouni and Nasimeh Naami and delivered the explosives to them two days prior to the operation. The attack was on behalf of Iran and was not a personal initiative of Assadi, the report highlighted.

Belgian prosecutors had demanded the maximum sentence of 20 years in prison for Assadi, eighteen years for the couple and fifteen years for Merhad Arefani, the fourth suspect involved in the plot. For the trio, prosecutors also sought their Belgian nationality to be revoked. During the past two years of investigation, Arefani has constantly claimed innocence and stated that he has never known Assadi. This is while the undeniable evidence in the file reveals Arefani’s connection with the MOIS, his connection with Assadi, and his role in the attack.
