As the Iranian regime have just celebrated the 43rd anniversary of the anti-monarchical revolution in Iran which saw them rise to power, they are continuing to face crises which threaten their future rule as they teeter on the edge of being overthrown.
The greatest threat to the regime’s existence is the Resistance Units, a network of activists in support of the Iranian opposition group, the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK), and their rebellion activities across Iran that have been shaking the regime to their core.
In recent months, these activities have delivered significant blows to the regime’s propaganda efforts.
On January 5, a large statue was unveiled in the city of Shahrekord in Iran’s Charmahal and Bakhtiari Province of Qassem Soleimani, the eliminated former commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps’ (IRGC) terrorist Quds Force.
The decision to install the expensive statue was the regime’s way of glorifying the mastermind behind their terrorist activities across the Middle East. However, within just a few hours of the statue’s unveiling, the Resistance Units had torched it, forcing the regime to cancel the events that had been scheduled to be held at the site.
The MEK said, “…images and videos of the burning statue of Soleimani were largely distributed on social media and news outlets and welcomed by the people of Iran as well as the people of the region, who have suffered immensely at the hands of Soleimani and the terrorist Quds Force.”
Another major activity carried out by the Resistance Units was the major broadcasting hacking on January 27, which saw disruptions of dozens of Iranian TV and radio stations. Regular programs were suddenly stopped at 3pm and replaced with images and audio of the Iranian Resistance leader, Massoud Rajavi, and the President-elect of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), Maryam Rajavi.
Anti-regime slogans were seen and heard during the hacked broadcasts, saying, “Death to Khamenei,” referring to the regime’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, and “Viva Rajavi.” A video clip of a speech from Massoud Rajavi was also broadcast, in which he said, “Today, we still honor the time that we declared death to the reactionary. We stood by it.”
The MEK said, “The regime responded with frantic, albeit futile, efforts to hack and bring down the servers of the websites associated with the Iranian Resistance. Three weeks later, the regime has been unable to repair the damage done to its broadcast operations.”
Early February saw the 43rd anniversary of the 1979 Iranian Revolution, and marked yet another year since the Iranian regime’s rise to power. The Resistance Units planned a wave of activities to coincide with the regime’s celebrations, which included broadcasts of anti-regime slogans through public broadcast systems, and the torching of posters of regime leaders.
Among the slogans broadcasted in Mashhad and Karaj were: “Down with Khamenei, Viva Rajavi!”; “Down with oppressors, be it the Shah or the [supreme] Leader!”; “No to crowns and turbans, the mullahs’ days are over!”; and, “Down with Khamenei and Raisi!”
Across Tehran, and in many other cities, including Tabriz, Isfahan, Shiraz, Ahvaz, Kerman, Hamedan, Zanjan, Semnan, Gorgan, Shahriar, Zabol, Behbahan, Torbat-e-Jam, Sarbaz, and Kavar, Resistance Units also showed their defiance by locating and torching the banners and posters, installed by the regime in these cities, bearing the photos of some of the regime’s leaders.
The Resistance Units have been in the background since the inception of the Iranian regime, fighting back against the religious dictatorship and their waves of oppression.
In a recent interview, the NCRI’s Foreign Affairs Committee Chair Mohammad Mohaddessin explained that, “…the ‘Resistance Units’ are the sledgehammers that break this atmospheric crackdown. Each day in various parts of Iran, under a widespread network of surveillance cameras, right under the noses of thousands of overt and covert agents, they are groups of brave youths that take down the icons of this dictatorship. These Resistance Units are literally on the verge of bringing an end to the regime’s suffocating crackdown.”
The units have been a major driving force behind the nationwide uprisings in Iran in recent years, and have helped to broadcast the message to the international community that the Iranian people do not support the regime.
Mohaddessin said, “It is not a strong regime. This state, with all its technology and advanced weaponry, may imprison, torture, and execute us. However, it can no longer maintain fear in our hearts. The Resistance Units are saying: “This regime has to go and will go!”
