For the past four decades of rule over Iran, the mullahs’ regime has been desperately racing to acquire nuclear weapons in order to reinforce their ‘illegitimate rule of terror’ in Iran, and across the Middle East. They also believe that obtaining nuclear weapons will provide them with impunity, and protect them from being held accountable by international powers for their crimes against humanity.

The regime has tried to keep its nuclear ambitions secret and hidden from the eyes of the international community, but at every step, the Iranian Resistance have been following their plans closely. The National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), alongside the main Iranian opposition group, the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK), have been working extremely hard to uncover details of the regime’s malign activities and contacting the international community to raise awareness of what is taking place in Iran.

The NCRI said, “The MEK’s sizeable social network has penetrated some of the most secretive enterprises of the regime, laboriously unearthing top-secret information that has triggered global action. The resistance movement has thus shed the spotlight on troubling developments that could have otherwise morphed into some of the most enduring and serious threats against regional stability and global peace and security.”

While the Iranian Resistance do not have access to the advanced technology that Western intelligence agencies have at their disposal, using their human intelligence sources on the ground in Iran has allowed them to uncover information just as easily, and efficiently. These sources literally risk their lives to acquire intelligence for the Resistance units, in the hope that future generations of Iranians will be able to live peacefully in a non-nuclear democratic country.

It has been just over 30 years since the Iranian opposition first revealed information of the regime’s nuclear ambitions in June 1991. A decade later, in August 2002, a major revelation was uncovered which informed the international community of the locations of two of the regime’s secret nuclear facilities, the Natanz enrichment facility and the Arak heavy water site. This revelation finally caught the attention of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), who then became involved in monitoring the regime’s sites and activities.

Despite the major revelations waking foreign governments to the activities that the regime is carrying out, there have always been critics who have been quick to doubt the intentions of the MEK and the NCRI, and have questioned the authenticity of the information that they revealed.

The NCRI said, “At every turn, however, those doubts have been shown to be unwarranted, not least because most if not all of the information has thus far been corroborated by Western intelligence agencies and/or formed the basis for steps taken by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).”

In a bid to discredit the Iranian Resistance, since its inception, the regime has been on a campaign to demonize the NCRI and the MEK. Continuously, the regime portrays these organizations as ‘traitors’, who are betraying ‘national secrets’, and their bid to oppress the people who support them has fallen on deaf ears.

The NCRI said, “As demonstrated in multiple nationwide uprisings in recent years, the Iranian people openly and vehemently decry the diversion of their national resources toward theocratic projects like the nuclear weapons program or meddling in regional politics instead of investing in the tanking national economy.”

The Iranian people are desperate to see the theocratic regime’s downfall in a demand that has grown exponentially over the past few years. More and more people are joining the ranks of the resistance units every day to help uncover more intelligence to facilitate an eventual overthrow of the mullahs and their brutal regime.

The NCRI said, “For the past few months in Vienna, world powers have struggled to entice the regime to rejoin the 2015 nuclear pact. But history should be a guide to the regime’s future modus operandi. Thus far, it has advanced its nuclear weapons program through denial, deception, and duplicity.”
