During his address at the Free Iran 2023 World Summit, Joseph Lieberman, former U.S. Senator, and Vice Presidential candidate conveyed the significance of the NCRI, MEK, and resistance fighters in Tehran. He emphasized that they instill more fear in the regime than any other government worldwide, including powerful entities like the U.S. and European governments. The reason behind this fear is their representation of the Iranian people and their immediate threat to the regime’s survival.
This reality is evident through the regime’s desperate attempts to discredit the MEK through propaganda and fake news. They also resort to threatening politicians and legislators who support the MEK and NCRI, as well as plotting acts of terrorism against the Iranian Resistance and its supporters.
Senator Lieberman pointed out that the regime’s substantial financial resources used to attack the NCRI and the MEK could be better spent improving the quality of life for the people of Iran.
The regime’s fear of the Iranian Resistance stems from the movement’s deep roots in Iran’s history, spanning decades of struggle for freedom and democracy. The sacrifices made by the members of the MEK have transformed the movement into an indomitable force, resilient against the regime’s numerous schemes aimed at annihilating it.
The regime has long recognized that the MEK and the organized resistance movement pose its primary threat. Forty-three years ago, before the regime initiated its full-scale crackdown on the MEK, its founder, Ruhollah Khomeini, explicitly stated, “Our enemy is not in the U.S., not in the USSR, not in Kurdistan, but right here in Tehran, in front of our eyes.”
However, it is evident today that the Iranian Resistance is stronger than ever, while the regime is at its weakest. The Former U.S. National Security Advisor, speaking at the Free Iran 2023 summit, acknowledged the regime’s deteriorating position and emphasized the need for the international community to collaborate with the organized Resistance of Iran to exploit this weakness and dismantle the regime from within.
Over the years, the regime has made extensive efforts to create a false impression of power balance between itself and the people and their resistance movement. Deceptive tactics, including the promotion of fake alternatives and the manipulation of domestic and foreign lobbies, have been employed to sway public opinion in favor of the regime or to discredit the NCRI and the MEK. These endeavors aim to maintain the regime by suggesting that there is no viable alternative to the mullahs’ rule and that regime change in Iran is not feasible, urging the people of Iran and the world to engage with factions within the regime.
As the former U.S. National Security Advisor, John Bolton, stated in his speech at the Free Iran 2023 World Summit, the recent wave of protests that erupted throughout Iran in September demonstrated the resolute determination of millions of Iranians for change. The Iranian people are drawing closer to their ultimate goal of establishing a free and democratic republic, prompting increasingly frantic reactions from the regime. Most recently, the regime threatened Italy over a visit by NCRI president-elect Maryam Rajavi and her meeting with Italian lawmakers.
Nonetheless, these escalating efforts by the regime prove more futile than ever as the people and their organized resistance movement continue to gain momentum. These reactions only highlight the regime’s fear and affirm that real change will emanate from the people themselves.
