Italian MP Naike Gruppioni delivered a poweful speech in support of the Iranian people and their Organized Resistance (NCRI/PMOI) led by Mrs. Maryam Rajavi.

On June 29, 2024,  at the Free Iran 2024 World Summit hosted at the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) headquarters in Paris, Naike Gruppioni, a member of the Foreign Affairs Commission of the Italian Parliament, delivered a powerful speech. Ms. Gruppioni expressed her strong support for the Iranian Resistance against the regime, emphasizing the importance of peace and human rights. Representing Italy, Gruppioni highlighted her admiration for Maryam Rajavi, describing her as a symbol of hope and resilience in the fight for freedom and democracy in Iran.

A translated version of MP Naike Gruppioni’s speech follows:

Dear friends, I am very happy to be here today with you in support of the opposition against the terrorist regime of Iran. It is crucial to support peace and human rights. I do so on behalf of Italy, but also on behalf of all those who believe that freedom and justice are a right. It is a great honor for me to be able to offer my support and express my admiration for President Rajavi, an extraordinary figure in the fight for freedom, democracy, and human rights in Iran.

Italian MP Naike Gruppioni

As a member of parliament and a Western woman, I am inspired by President Rajavi’s courage, determination, and vision. She is not just a leader, but a symbol of hope and resilience. Her tireless struggle against the oppressive Iranian regime and her vision of a democratic and secular future for Iran is a beacon of hope and should be for all of us so that the rights of the Iranian people, of Iranian men and women, are finally and justly affirmed.

It is even more significant to be here today, while in Berlin all the supporters of the MEK gather to support the uprising of the Iranian people, who courageously reject and fight the dictatorship so that a secular and democratic Republic can be established in their land.

I feel proud, as a member of the Italian Republic’s parliament, to strongly support the democratic alternative of the National Council of Resistance of Iran. This is the message I bring today to Mrs. Rajavi, also on behalf of my Italian colleagues, who believe in her vision and endorse her project.

The revival plan contained in the ten points proposed by President Rajavi outlines the future of a free and just Iran, a Republic in its highest and most noble sense. A democratic Republic founded on free elections, and the secular separation of religion from the state apparatus. A Republic where the death penalty is abolished, based on gender equality and the urgent need to remove the intolerable gag that limits freedom of expression.

Women, in the shameful Iranian theocratic dictatorship, are the victims of victims. They are those who, in addition to suffering the dictates of an anachronistic regime, are immobilized, repressed, and annihilated for their reluctance to the regime and for their very identity as women.

Dear friends, this morning I was truly speechless, shocked by what was declared by Maryam Goudarzi, spokesperson for Jalili. I convey her words to you literally and read them. “If a woman goes around freely without a hijab, then a man who gets excited is also free to attack her. A man who is not physically or mentally excited by naked women is sick and must consult a doctor.”

I don’t think it is necessary to add anything else; I believe there is no longer anything to understand, but only to do. For this and much more, I felt it was my duty to promote the political and human dissemination of your people’s reasons in my country, including a motion that will soon be submitted to the Italian Parliament, so that the Italian Chamber of Deputies quickly approves a motion leading to the formal inclusion of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) in the list of persons, groups, and entities to which specific measures of the European Union for combating terrorism apply.

I am also certain that on these issues, the Italian Parliament is one of the leading countries at the European level because it is important that Europe is united and cohesive with the Iranian people, with all Iranian women who fight for freedom and democracy.

All democratic countries, without exception, must firmly oppose this regime because the real aspirations of the Iranian people have been, since the dawn of time, our own aspirations, so that freedom, justice, and equality are not empty and desirable words but are for them what they are for us today.

Long live democracy, long live a democratic Iran, long live President Rajavi.

Thank you.
