Gianna Gancia Urges Europe to Adopt a Zero-Enrichment Stance to Stop Iran’s Nuclear Threat

Gianna Gancia, a Member of the Piemonte State Parliament and former MEP

On May 31, 2025, Gianna Gancia, a Member of the Piemonte State Parliament and former European Parliamentarian, spoke at The Second Free Iran 2025 Conference, emphasizing the urgent need for strong European leadership to counter Iran’s nuclear ambitions. The conference united global political figures, lawmakers, and supporters of the Iranian Resistance to endorse the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) and its Ten-Point Plan for a democratic Iran.

Gancia highlighted her enduring support for the Iranian Resistance, recalling her visit to Camp Ashraf and her time in the European Parliament, where she hosted President-elect Maryam Rajavi in Strasbourg. She warned that decades of deception have propelled Iran’s nuclear program, posing an escalating danger to world peace.

She urged the European Union, particularly the E3 nations, to activate the snapback mechanism to reinstate UN sanctions and insist on dismantling Iran’s nuclear infrastructure. Gancia emphasized that a strict zero-uranium enrichment policy must be upheld without compromise.

Closing her remarks, she paid tribute to those who have sacrificed for freedom and called for ongoing resistance, affirming that freedom is humanity’s most vital value and without it, life loses its meaning.

The following is a translated version of the speech.

It is an honor to be here to witness with you this important moment for freedom.

My journey with the Iranian Resistance began many, many years ago in Ashraf, where I was able to witness your vitality and your unshakeable spirit. I then continued my commitment during my term in the European Parliament, and I had the privilege of hosting Mrs. Rajavi at the European Parliament in Strasbourg, where I also observed Iran’s nuclear ambitions, which endanger and threaten peace.

The Iranian regime’s race to develop nuclear weapons has been marked by two decades of deception. Despite the recent talks with the United States — which Khamenei himself called dishonorable — Tehran’s ambitions remain completely unchecked. Therefore, uranium enrichment must stop. Europe cannot afford to be misled by the regime’s tactics.

The E3 group must activate the snapback mechanism to restore UN sanctions and apply meaningful pressure on Iran to dismantle its nuclear program.

A zero-enrichment policy is not negotiable. Only resolute action can secure a free Iran — one that is no longer, as it is now, a threat to global stability.

When I say Europe must act, I say this directly to my colleagues: I mean Europe as a force distinct from Washington or Moscow. It must take the lead.

Let us unite for a free Iran, where peace and democracy can once again flourish. And now, let us honor the men and women who have fought for this cause up to now.

I know it has been hard, and I know it will continue to be hard — but we must go on. Above all, you must go on, because freedom is the most precious thing we have. And we too, in our own countries, must continue to fight for it — because without freedom, man is not man.

Thank you.
