Iranian political prisoner Adel Kianpour died Saturday, January,1, 2022, after a week of hunger strike in a prison in Ahvaz.

Iranian political prisoner Adel Kianpour died Saturday, January,1, 2022, after a week of hunger strike without receiving medical care. Kianpour was arrested by security forces in Kurdistan province in August 2020 after returning to Iran.

He was charged with membership in opposition groups but was later released as the charges were not proven.

He was arrested again in Ahvaz and tortured for two months to extract incriminating confessions. Kianpour was sentenced to three years in prison on bogus national security charges.

He contracted Covid-19 in September, but was denied medical care by prison authorities. Kianpour was on hunger strike since December 25, protesting being denied basic legal rights.
