Iran’s Regime Sentences Two Elite Students, Ali Younesi and Amirhossein Moradi to 16 Years in Prison

Iran’s regime has sentenced two elite university students to long prison sentences. Ali Younesi and Amirhossein Moradi were sentenced to 16 years in jail on charges of supporting the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK).

Younesi and Moradi were students at the Sharif University of Technology. Younesi won the gold medal at the 2018 International Olympiad on Astronomy and Astrophysics, and Moradi won the silver medal in the 2017 Olympiad on Astronomy and Astrophysics.

They were arrested in 2020 and subjected to brutal torture in Evin prison. Both were tortured to make incriminating confessions.
