Iran’s Regime Executed the Young Protester Mohsen Shekari Over Nationwide Protests

Iran’s Regime Executed the Young Protester Mohsen Shekari Over Nationwide Protests

December 8, 2022, Tehran: Iran’s regime executed 23-year-old Mohsen Shekari (محسن شکاری). Shekari was arrested on September 25, 2022, in Tehran during the nationwide uprisings that began on September 16.

The protests have spread to more than 280 cities, with people across Iran demanding regime change. Shekari is the first political prisoner to be officially executed for taking part in these protests.

He was accused of “Moharebeh” (enmity against God), a vague charge the regime uses against dissidents. The regime’s judiciary claimed that Shekari had “blocked Tehran’s Sattarkhan street” and attempted to attack Basij forces.

Basij is a brutal paramilitary force that has killed hundreds of protesters in recent months. The regime has already charged dozens of other protesters with “Moharebeh”. It is also torturing prisoners to extract incriminating confessions.
Human rights organizations have warned against the regime’s intention to execute protesters.

The criminal execution of Mohsen Shekari has created a wave of anger and hatred among the people of Iran, especially in Tehran, against the terrorist and criminal regime of the supreme leader Ali Khamenei.

Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, the president-elect of the NCRI, strongly condemned the execution of Mohsen Shekari and said: “Imprisoned protester, Mohsen Shekari, 23, was executed on Khamenei’s order, showing the regime’s fear in the face of Iran Revolution and the prospect of being overthrown. This vicious crime will fuel people’s anger. Courageous youths and protesters will not remain silent.”

She added: “I urge the UN, EU, member states, and human rights defenders to strongly condemn the execution of the 23-year-old Mohsen Shekari and take effective and practical measures against religious fascism ruling Iran to Stop Executions. Silence, inaction, trample human rights values.”

Also, the international community has widely condemned this brutal execution.
