International Support Grows for the ‘No to Execution Tuesdays’ Campaign in Iran’s Prisons

Dozens of human rights organizations and institutions have issued a joint statement in support of the “No to Execution Tuesdays” campaign, now in its 31st week across various Iranian prisons. This movement, initiated by political prisoners engaging in weekly hunger strikes, aims to protest the high rate of executions in Iran and has gained significant international attention.

The statement is calling on the international community to support the anti-execution movement in Iran, viewing the “No to Execution Tuesdays” campaign as a crucial initiative in the ongoing fight for human rights in the country.

Signatories include prominent groups such as the World Coalition Against the Death Penalty, World Organization Against Torture, and International Federation for Human Rights.

The campaign has also attracted support from European politicians. Two Italian Parliament members, Paolo Formentini and Andrea Di Giuseppe, have publicly endorsed the movement, urging their government and the European Union to take a stronger stance against Iran’s use of capital punishment.

Additionally, Elisabetta Zamparutti, a former member of the Italian Parliament and an official of the human rights organization “Hands Off Cain,” has joined the hunger strike in support of the “No to Executions Tuesdays” campaign in Iran. This initiative, now in its 31st week, was started by death row inmates in Iran at the beginning of the year.

Zamparutti reported that capital executions in Iran have risen to 418, an increase of 16 from the previous week. She expressed her indignation at the escalating use of capital punishment in Iran, emphasizing that this trend shows no signs of abating and should be a cause for outrage. Her participation in the hunger strike every Tuesday alongside Iranian prisoners demonstrates growing international solidarity with the campaign against executions in Iran.

This growing international support underscores the global concern over Iran’s human rights record, particularly regarding executions. It also highlights the courageous efforts of Iranian political prisoners and activists who continue to protest peacefully despite challenging circumstances.
