Landmark 50th Week of “No to Executions” Campaign: Participation Expands to 30 Prisons Across Iran

Week 50: No to Executions Campaign in Iran’s Prisons

A Nationwide Protest Against State Executions

Iran’s “No to Executions Tuesdays” campaign has reached a significant milestone, marking its 50th week of resistance against the regime’s rising execution rates. The movement has gained widespread support, with prisoners in 30 facilities nationwide participating in hunger strikes to protest the government’s use of executions as a tool of oppression.

This week, inmates from Sepidar and Ramhormoz prisons joined the campaign, emphasizing the growing solidarity among justice seekers and victims’ families. These protests align with the anniversary of the Ukrainian airliner tragedy, a somber reminder of the regime’s continued atrocities.

Grim Statistics Underscore the Urgency

The Iranianregime executed over 1,000 individuals in 2024, setting a chilling record. On January 1, 2025, 21 more individuals were executed, fueling outrage both domestically and internationally. The movement has now extended its reach to major prisons, including Evin, Ghezel Hesar, and Sheiban Ahvaz. Activists are calling for the abolition of the death penalty, urging Iran to join the 128 countries that have already eliminated capital punishment.

Global Solidarity and Determined Resistance

The campaign has received support from international activists and human rights organizations, urging the global community to oppose Iran’s inhumane practices. Despite severe government crackdowns, the campaign organizers remain resolute, asserting that victory is achievable.

Campaign Statement Highlights Regime Atrocities

The campaign’s official statement calls out the regime’s disregard for global norms and human values. While governments worldwide mark holidays with ceasefires or amnesty, the Iranian regime executed 21 citizens on New Year’s Day.

The statement also draws attention to Zimbabwe’s recent abolition of the death penalty as a New Year’s gift to its citizens, contrasting sharply with Iran’s escalating executions. The campaign emphasizes the Iranian people’s resilience and determination to defend their fundamental rights, despite the regime’s brutal attempts to instill fear.

Hunger Strikes and Unified Protests

Prisoners in Sepidar and Ramhormoz prisons have announced hunger strikes in solidarity with the campaign. On Tuesday, January 7, 2025, the campaign will observe its 50th week with coordinated hunger strikes across 30 prisons. This date also marks the anniversary of the regime’s missile attack on the Ukrainian airliner, symbolizing a unified stand against the regime’s crimes.

The campaign urges families of executed prisoners and victims of regime violence to join the movement, fostering unity among those demanding justice.
