Nationwide Hunger Strike in Iran’s Prisons: 61st Week of the “No to Executions Tuesdays” Campaign

61st Week of the “No to Executions Tuesdays” Campaign

March 25, 2025: The sixty-first week of the “No to Executions Tuesdays” campaign continues with a hunger strike by political prisoners across 38 prisons in Iran. In a joint statement, participating prisoners highlighted the alarming execution statistics for the Iranian year 1403 (March 20, 2024 – March 20, 2025), revealing that over 1,150 prisoners, including 38 women, were executed. Among them were 135 Baluch and 104 Kurdish compatriots. Additionally, five political prisoners were executed, while eight others were publicly hanged in a brutal, medieval-style display. Shockingly, seven juveniles were also among those executed.

The campaign’s members called on organizations and activists to take a stronger stand against executions in Iran, declaring:

“We, the members of the ‘No to Executions Tuesdays’ campaign, remain steadfast in our opposition to the inhumane practice of execution. We urge all individuals, organizations, and groups committed to human rights and the right to life to take more effective and practical actions against executions. Let us strive for 1404 to mark the end of repression and executions, and the beginning of freedom for Iran.”

Execution Statistics for 1403

As the new Iranian year 1404 begins, the “No to Execution Tuesdays” campaign has released its report on the execution crisis under the current regime. Notably, 85% of executions in 1403 took place during the presidency of Pezeshkian, demonstrating that all factions of the regime continue to engage in the mass execution of Iranian citizens.

The campaign urges activists and human rights defenders to escalate their efforts against the death penalty and advocate for justice.
