The resolution, adopted during a plenary session, highlights serious concerns over the grossly unfair trials and credible allegations of torture faced by Ehsani and Hassani. Both men are currently on death row in Ghezel Hesar prison, following convictions widely condemned by human rights organizations.
According to the official statement from the Flemish Parliament, the lawmakers called for diplomatic pressure and coordinated EU-level intervention to prevent what they describe as a “grave miscarriage of justice.” The original text of the resolution is available via the Flemish Parliament’s official website.
In parallel, European Commissioner for Equality, Preparedness and Crisis Management, Hadja Lahbib, reiterated the EU’s stance during a European Parliament debate, stating that “Iran must halt the imminent execution of Behrouz Ehsani and Mehdi Hassani.” Her remarks echoed growing concerns within EU institutions over Iran’s intensifying use of capital punishment against political prisoners.
