On Tuesday, July 15, 2025, prisoners across 48 prisons in Iran are marking the 77th week of the nationwide “No to Executions Tuesdays” campaign by launching coordinated hunger strikes. With Yazd Prison joining for the first time, this growing campaign continues to amplify the voices of those opposing executions and state-sanctioned killings from behind bars.
This week’s joint statement from the prisoners focuses on the grave risks facing six political prisoners, including three Arab prisoners recently moved to solitary confinement and three others sentenced to death twice.
It also highlights the systematic use of public executions as a tool for intimidation rather than justice.
Their full statement reads:
“Public executions are a tool to suppress uprisings and public anger, not the execution of justice; they are instruments of intimidation, not of law.”
