The 87th Week of “No to Execution Tuesdays”: Voices Rising from 52 Prisons Across Iran

The 87th Week of the “No to Execution Tuesdays” Campaign

On Tuesday, September 23, 2025, the 87th week of the  “No to Execution Tuesdays” campaign unfolds amid an alarming surge in executions across Iran. Prisoners and activists once again emphasize their core belief: “Life is the fundamental right of every human being, and execution is an unjustifiable act of violence against this right.”

Unprecedented Wave of Executions in Iran

This campaign week coincides with a record number of executions. Since September 16 alone, at least 46 people have been executed—including two women and six Baluch citizens. In the Persian month of Shahrivar (August 21 – September 22), a staggering 186 executions were reported, seven of them women.

Among the victims, the execution of Babak Shahbazi, a member of this very campaign, has become a painful symbol of injustice. Shahbazi was executed on the anniversary of the 2022 uprising, denied even a final meeting with his family. His secret removal from the ward and sudden execution triggered a sit-in protest by fellow prisoners in Qezel Hesar Prison.

The Regime’s Contradictions and the People’s Resistance

While the authorities boast of so-called “pardons,” the growing tally of executions reveals the regime’s grim reality. Fear and repression weigh heavily on the people, yet resistance continues to grow.

With the reopening of schools, teachers, students, and young activists are once again on the frontline of the struggle for freedom, justice, and equality. Classrooms and campuses are transforming into spaces of resistance, amplifying voices against executions and state violence.

A Call to Action

The “No to Execution Tuesdays” campaign appeals to all freedom-loving people of Iran and human rights defenders worldwide: silence in the face of such cruelty is unacceptable. Every Tuesday, voices rise to honor the victims, to defend life, and to challenge a system built on fear and death sentences.

Hunger Strike in 52 Prisons Across Iran

On September 23, 2025, prisoners participating in the 87th week of the campaign have launched hunger strikes in 52 prisons nationwide, including:

  • Evin Prison

  • Qezel Hesar Prison (Units 3 and 4)

  • Karaj Central Prison

  • Fardis Karaj Prison

  • Greater Tehran Prison

  • Qarchak Prison

  • Khorrin Varamin Prison

  • Choobindar Qazvin Prison

  • …and dozens more across Qom, Esfahan, Ahvaz, Shiraz, Zahedan, Kermanshah, Kurdistan, Tabriz, Urmia, and beyond.

Closing Statement

Week after week, prisoners and activists reaffirm: “Life is the fundamental right of every human being, and execution is an unjustifiable act of violence against this right.”
