Week 85 of the “No to Execution Tuesdays” Campaign in 52 Prisons Across Iran

A Nationwide Call for Justice

On Tuesday, September 9, 2025, the 85th week of the No to Execution Tuesdays campaign is taking place in 52 prisons across Iran. This week, prisoners in Sabzevar Prison have also joined this growing movement, amplifying the collective voice against executions.

A Rising Wave of Executions and Public Outrage

The campaign’s latest statement condemns the recent wave of executions, including the killing of Mehran Bahramian, a political prisoner in Semirom, and two Sunni prisoners of conscience, Eskandar Bazmandegan and Mohammad Kashefi, who were secretly hanged in Shiraz’s Adelabad Prison.

The statement reads:

“Execution is a tool for the blatant violation of human rights and the suppression of freedoms.”

From the streets of Semirom, where shopkeepers and citizens staged a dignified strike in protest, to the silent cells of prisons across the nation, the message is clear: the people of Iran refuse to remain silent in the face of state violence.

Stark Statistics Reveal a Deepening Crisis

The latest figures highlight the alarming pace of executions:

  • Since August 23, 2025 (Shahrivar), 92 prisoners — including 4 women — have been executed.

  • In just one week, 46 individuals were put to death.

  • Since March 21, 2025 (the start of the Persian year 1404), a shocking 756 people have been executed, with 100 in Qezel Hesar Prison alone — over 13% of all executions this year in one facility.

These numbers underscore the urgent need for collective action.

Expansion of the Hunger Strike Movement

In a powerful act of defiance, prisoners in Sabzevar Prison have declared their participation in the “No to Execution Tuesdays” campaign. Every Tuesday, they will join others across the country in a coordinated hunger strike, symbolizing solidarity with the victims of Iran’s execution policies.

A Unified Demand: End Executions in Iran

Campaign members reiterate their stance:

  • Execution is a violation of human rights and a weapon of oppression.

  • The immediate and complete halt of executions is demanded across the entire country.

They call on all justice-seeking citizens to raise the banner of “No to Execution” in every city and every street, standing together for life, dignity, and justice.

“Life is a fundamental right of every human being. No government has the right to take it away. Out of respect for those who have been executed and their grieving families, we cry out: No to execution, no to dictatorship and oppression, yes to justice and the sovereignty of the people.”

List of the 52 Participating Prisons
