Political prisoners across Iran launched coordinated hunger strikes on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, as the “No to Execution Tuesdays” campaign reached week 108, expanding its protest to 56 prisons nationwide. The action once again underscored growing opposition to executions and the intensifying crackdown on detainees.
Political Prisoners Mark Week 108 with Hunger Strikes
Participants in the campaign said the protest coincided with the 40th day of those killed in the recent uprising, expressing solidarity with their families and reaffirming support for ongoing nationwide resistance. The prisoners stressed that commemorations of the victims have strengthened public resolve rather than silencing dissent.
Warning of Escalating Repression
In their statement, campaign members pointed to newly released videos and reports documenting abuses during the January protests, saying the scale of violence reflects a continuation of past atrocities. They warned that current policies echo the mass repression of previous decades and could lead to further death sentences and long prison terms for detainees.
The prisoners also highlighted the sharp rise in executions, noting that more than 300 inmates — including several women — have reportedly been executed since late January.
Concern Over Detainees Facing Death Sentences
The campaign raised alarm over the situation of Saleh Mohammadi, an 18-year-old wrestler arrested during the protests who is said to be at risk of execution while held in Qom. Activists warned that many other detainees face similar threats amid mounting pressure and interrogations.
Call for Public and International Action
Campaign participants urged the Iranian public, particularly families of detainees, to speak out and publicize the names and conditions of imprisoned relatives. They also called on international human rights bodies to take urgent action to prevent further executions and protect political prisoners.
