Executions of PMOI members signal deepening repression and potential repeat of mass political purges
Mr. Mohammad Mohaddessin, chair of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), warned Wednesday of a renewed surge in political executions in Iran, calling recent killings of People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI) members a sign of growing instability.
Speaking at an online press conference, Mohaddessin said four PMOI members were executed in recent days after prolonged detention and alleged torture. He added that additional prisoners arrested during the January uprising were also executed last week.

He cautioned that these executions could signal a broader crackdown, drawing parallels to the mass political purges of 1988, and called for urgent international intervention.
Mohaddessin noted that the executed individuals were members of the PMOI’s Resistance Units, which he said play a key role in organizing protests and confronting repressive forces. “More than 2,000 members disappeared during the January uprising, and many who remain imprisoned now face execution,” he added.
Quoting official statements from the regime’s judiciary, he said the four executed were accused of participating in uprisings, targeting security centers, producing their own equipment, raising funds, and working to overthrow the regime.
Highlighting the Resistance Units’ activities, he said: “Over the past year, they conducted 4,092 anti-repression operations. During the recent uprising, they carried out 630 operations to protect demonstrators.”
He also pointed to a major escalation on February 23, when 250 fighters attacked the headquarters of Ali Khamenei in Tehran, resulting in 100 members killed or arrested.
Mohaddessin quoted NCRI President-elect Maryam Rajavi, who described the executions as reflecting the regime’s fear and desperation amid rising public anger and growing support for the Resistance Units.
He warned that many prisoners, especially PMOI members, remain at imminent risk of execution. “Beyond the four already executed, 15 death sentences have been confirmed by the Supreme Court, and more are likely,” he said.
Calling on global powers to act, Mohaddessin urged the closure of Iranian embassies, expulsion of diplomats, recognition of a provisional government, and support for the Iranian people’s right to confront the IRGC and resist the regime.
