Political prisoners and prisoners of conscience in 57 prisons across Iran have launched the 127th week of the “No to Execution Tuesdays” campaign with a hunger strike, protesting the country’s ongoing execution spree, widespread repression, and escalating human rights violations.

The strike began on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, as the Iranian judiciary continues to intensify pressure on political detainees and protesters by opening hundreds of new cases and expanding the use of death sentences as a tool of intimidation and suppression.

The prisoners are demanding the complete abolition of the death penalty and are protesting the systematic violation of human dignity, including the denial of families’ right to know the burial locations of their executed loved ones.

Continued Expansion of Executions and Repression in Iran

The statement of the “No to Execution Tuesdays” campaign warns that the government’s execution and repression apparatus continues unabated, with political prisoners and prisoners convicted of ordinary crimes facing executions across the country.

According to the campaign statement, the judiciary has announced that 3,292 people have been arrested since the beginning of the recent war on charges of “cooperating with the enemy.” These figures come amid a broader crackdown following the suppression of nationwide protests in January 2026, during which many detainees reportedly face the possibility of death sentences or lengthy prison terms.

The Prosecutor of Sari has stated that 700 cases have been opened against protesters in the city, while Alamolhoda, the Friday Prayer Leader of Mashhad, has referred to thousands of cases filed against those arrested during the January uprising.

140 Executions Recorded in One Month

The campaign statement reports that at least 140 people were executed during the Iranian month of Khordad this year (May 22 to June 21), highlighting what it describes as the Iranian government’s continued use of executions as a means of repression and creating fear in society.

Thousands of families across Iran continue to mourn loved ones who have been executed through what the campaign describes as an inhumane process. Many families have also been deprived of the right to know where their relatives were buried.

Families Denied the Right to Mourn Their Loved Ones

The campaign highlighted the painful question raised by families of executed prisoners: “Where is my son’s grave?”

This question was voiced by the father of Vahid Bani Amerian, a political prisoner executed at Qezelhesar Prison in March–April 2026 along with five other political prisoners, as well as by other families whose loved ones’ bodies were not returned.

The campaign states that withholding burial information represents continued punishment after death and a violation of basic human dignity, preventing families from mourning and seeking justice.

Prisoners Continue Their Protest Against the Death Penalty

Despite growing pressure and repression, participants in the “No to Execution Tuesdays” campaign have vowed to continue their weekly protests. Every Tuesday, prisoners across Iran go on hunger strike to demand the abolition of the death penalty and call for freedom, justice, and equality.

The campaign’s 127th week of hunger strike on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, is being held in the following 57 prisons:
