Prisoners in Darreh Shahr and Meshginshahr join the nationwide hunger strike as executions continue to rise across Iran.
In its 140th week, the “No to Execution Tuesdays” campaign has expanded to 66 prisons across Iran, with prisoners at Darreh Shahr Prison in Ilam Province and Meshginshahr Prison in Ardabil Province joining the nationwide protest.
As part of this week’s action, prisoners on hunger strike honored the memory of those who lost their lives in the struggle for freedom at the beginning of the new academic year. They also protested the escalating wave of executions in Iran, including the execution of at least 79 people during the month of Shahrivar, from August 23 to September 21, 2026.
The campaign also warned about the issuance of new death sentences and the imminent execution of nearly 200 political and ideological prisoners. The campaign members emphasized that hunger strikes and resistance will continue in an effort to stop the execution machine.
Honoring Students, Teachers, and Academics Who Lost Their Lives
At the beginning of the new academic year, the “No to Execution Tuesdays” campaign honored the memory of pupils, teachers, university students, and professors who have lost their lives over the past four decades in the struggle for freedom and equality in Iran.
The statement particularly commemorated students who were killed by the “Velayat-e Faqih” regime during the January 2026 uprising and whose places remain empty in classrooms as the new academic year begins.
At Least 79 Executions Recorded in Shahrivar
The campaign stated that the Iranian regime continues to carry out executions and take the lives of prisoners on a daily basis.
According to the statement, at least 79 people, including six women and 10 Baluch citizens, were executed during Shahrivar, corresponding to August 23 through September 21, 2026.
The campaign also reported that a death sentence has been issued against Mahboubeh Sha’bani, one of the detainees arrested during the January 2026 uprising, in Mashhad Prison.
Nearly 200 Political and Ideological Prisoners Under Death Sentence
According to information received by the campaign, nearly 200 political and ideological prisoners are currently under death sentences. Many of them are detainees of the nationwide January 2026 uprising.
The campaign described the situation as a continuation of the suppression of the Iranian people by Iran’s religious regime and said that repression, killings, and executions continue without restraint.
Against these measures, the statement said, resistance by prisoners, members of the “No to Execution Tuesdays” campaign, and its supporters inside Iran and around the world continues.
Two More Prisons Join the Campaign
According to information received by the campaign, prisoners at Darreh Shahr Prison in Ilam Province and Meshginshahr Prison in Ardabil Province joined the protest this week.
With the addition of these two prisons, the number of prisons participating in the campaign has reached 66. In each participating prison, a group of prisoners goes on hunger strike every Tuesday.
The campaign said the continued expansion of the movement and growing support for it demonstrate what it described as society’s deep opposition to executions, as well as opposition to the legitimacy of the Iranian regime and its judiciary.
The statement further criticized what it called the judiciary’s “anti-human and medieval laws” and said that death sentences are issued in courts without providing defendants with even the minimum right to a defense.
Campaign Calls for Wider Action Against Executions
The members of the “No to Execution Tuesdays” campaign expressed their appreciation to all those who have supported the expansion and continuation of the movement and helped amplify the voices of prisoners facing execution.
The campaign called for the “No to Execution” message to become louder and more widespread in order to stop executions and prevent further tragedies.
It called for every street, alley, and available opportunity to be used to expose what it described as the crimes of the Iranian regime and urged practical action to stop executions.
66 Prisons Participating in the 140th Week
On Tuesday, September 29, 2026, members of the “No to Execution Tuesdays” campaign began their hunger strike in the following 66 prisons:
