The “No to Execution Tuesdays” campaign has entered its 144th week, with participants in 66 prisons across Iran staging a hunger strike on Tuesday, October 27, 2026. The protest comes amid a horrifying wave of executions and the issuance or upholding of death sentences against political prisoners.
At least 87 people have been executed in Iran in the past 20 days alone. Meanwhile, new or upheld death sentences have targeted political prisoners, including Manouchehr Fallah, Ilia Ben Rashid, and Reza Zanganeh.
Referring to the position taken by the UN Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in Iran, campaign participants have called on the public, human rights activists, and the international community to break their silence and expand solidarity to prevent the continuation of this inhumane and repressive punishment.
Death Sentences Against Political Prisoners Raise Alarm
The “No to Execution Tuesdays” campaign issued the following statement on the occasion of its 144th week of protests in 66 prisons across Iran.
Once again, the ominous shadow of execution hangs over people whose lives, freedom, and human dignity are caught in the grip of repression.
The death sentence of political prisoner Manouchehr Fallah has been upheld at Lakan Prison in Rasht. An Arab protester, Ilia Ben Rashid, has been sentenced to death in Isfahan. A death sentence has also been issued against political prisoner Reza Zanganeh at the Central Prison of Karaj, as well as against another prisoner, Hassan Golshan-Nejad, who faces security-related charges at Mashhad Prison.

These cases, alongside the continuing wave of executions across Iran and the presence of hundreds and thousands of prisoners on death row, constitute an alarm that cannot be ignored.
Executions Inflict Deep Wounds on Iranian Society
Execution in Iran is not merely the ending of a person’s life. It is a deep wound inflicted on the body of society, a means of condemning families to eternal grief, and a tool for spreading fear and silencing public protest.
However, history has shown that no gallows can eradicate the human desire for freedom and equality, and no amount of repression can silence the voice of justice forever.
At Least 87 People Executed in 20 Days
The horrific statistics of executions carried out by the tyrannical regime ruling Iran during the Iranian month of Mehr, corresponding to September 23–October 22, reveal the stark reality of this repression.
According to the statistics cited in the campaign statement, at least 87 people have been executed in the past 20 days alone. Among those executed were seven political prisoners and two women.
These figures underscore the urgency of confronting the escalating use of the death penalty in Iran.
UN Special Rapporteur’s Position Highlights Need for International Action
In these circumstances, the position taken by Ms. Mai Sato, the UN Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in Iran, against executions and the expanding repression of the Iranian people once again highlights the importance of international attention and action in response to human rights violations in Iran.
Defending the right to life, freedom of expression, and the right to protest is a human responsibility that must not stop at political borders.
Campaign Calls for Solidarity to Abolish the Death Penalty
Today, all prisoners sentenced to death need our voices. We must not allow their names to disappear into silence and indifference.
Every step toward abolishing the death penalty is a step toward a freer and more humane society.
The “No to Execution Tuesdays” campaign calls on all freedom-loving people, families seeking justice, human rights activists, political and trade union activists, and awakened consciences not to remain silent in the face of the wave of executions.
The campaign urges them to speak out for prisoners sentenced to death, condemn these sentences, and expand solidarity to stop executions and abolish this inhumane punishment.
Our success in stopping the machinery of execution, slaughter, and repression depends solely on our solidarity. Let us unite to achieve this vital goal.
