The statement of the “No to Execution Tuesdays” campaign for its 141st week, issued on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, calls for support for the campaign on the eve of the International Day Against the Death Penalty.
The statement emphasizes that in authoritarian regimes such as Iran, the death penalty has become a tool for spreading fear, silencing protests, and suppressing dissidents.
Iran Holds the World’s Highest Recorded Number of Executions
The statement stresses that Iran holds the record for executions worldwide. According to Amnesty International, the Iranian regime executed at least 2,159 people in 2025, recording the highest number of executions documented anywhere in the world.
Today, the execution apparatus in Iran, alongside arbitrary arrests, torture, enforced disappearances, and forced confessions, remains an integral pillar of the regime’s machinery of repression.
46 Countries Condemn Iran’s Growing Use of the Death Penalty
In recent days, during the 63rd session of the United Nations Human Rights Council, a joint statement by 46 countries condemned the Iranian regime’s increasing use of the death penalty, particularly against protesters.
The countries expressed grave concern over the execution of protesters and the issuance of death sentences against other detainees, including women and young people.
Mai Sato, the UN Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in Iran, welcomed the joint statement. In recent months, she has repeatedly highlighted various aspects of Iran’s machinery of repression and executions—from concerns over the execution of individuals sentenced as children to the use of torture and forced confessions, the lack of fair trials, and the use of national security charges against protesters.
At Least 22 People Executed in the Past Week
According to statistics and reports received by the “No to Execution Tuesdays” campaign, at least 22 people were executed during the past week, from Tuesday, September 29, to Monday, October 5.
Among those executed were five detainees arrested during protests:
- Ali Hemmati — Mashhad
- Majid Nik-Andish — Mashhad
- Siavash Jamshidi Khairabadi — Shahrekord
- Alireza Sepahi — Isfahan
- Alireza Raeisi — Isfahan

The executions took place as protests and public discontent continue to expand across Iranian society. Once again, they demonstrate that the repression apparatus of the Velayat-e Faqih regime is seeking to create a barrier against popular uprisings and protests by spreading fear and terror and erecting gallows.
However, the experience of recent years has demonstrated that executions cannot silence the people’s anger or their demand for freedom.
Death Sentences Continue as Executions Intensify
The statement of the “No to Execution Tuesdays” campaign points to the continued issuance of death sentences against protesters alongside the escalating wave of executions.
“We believe that the dictatorship ruling Iran is seeking, by intensifying executions, to create a security atmosphere and intimidate the people,” the statement says. “But in response to this policy, resistance and social solidarity are growing day by day.”
The “No to Execution Tuesdays” campaign is the voice of prisoners who stand against the machinery of death behind the high walls of Iran’s prisons. It is the voice of families who see their loved ones on the verge of destruction, and the voice of a people demanding the right to life, freedom, equality, and human dignity.
Campaign Calls for Nationwide Support Against Executions
The campaign calls on all people of Iran, families seeking justice, prisoners, civil and human rights activists, and all opponents of the death penalty inside and outside Iran to support the “No to Execution Tuesdays” campaign so that all can unite against executions.
“Let us not allow the gallows to become a tool for silencing the voice of society.”
