Iran: The Mullahs’Regime Hanged Three Protesters Amid Surge in Executions

Friday, May 19, 2023: In Isfahan, the ruling regime carried out the execution of three young protesters involved in the protests that took place during the Iranian Revolution last year. Saleh Mirhashemi, Saeed Yaghoubi, and Majid Kazemi, who were subjected to severe torture leading to coerced confessions in unfair trials, fell victim to this act.

These executions are part of an alarming increase in capital punishment orchestrated by the authoritarian regime in an attempt to suppress the ongoing and intensifying anti-regime demonstrations.

Despite widespread protests within Iran and international pleas urging the regime to halt these executions, the three prisoners were hanged.

Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, the President-elect of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), expressed her condemnation, stating, “Not a day goes by without the bloodthirsty Khamenei shedding the blood of our young people to cling to his abhorrent reign and stave off its inevitable collapse… The mullahs’ regime is unable to rule a single day without resorting to repression, torture, and executions. The sole path for the people of Iran to free themselves is through uprising and resistance.”

Secretariat of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) said in a statement: Following the execution of Saleh Mirhashmi, Majid Kazemi, and Saeed Yaqoubi, three political prisoners involved in the uprising, by Khamenei’s executioners, the people of Tehran expressed their outrage and protested against this heinous act.

In various areas of Tehran, including Ekbatan, Tehransar, Shahrziba, Negin Gharb, Tehranpars, Saadat Abad, and Apadana, citizens chanted slogans denouncing Khamenei. Their collective voice echoed from buildings and rooftops, with cries such as “Death to the killer Khamenei,” “Death to the execution republic,” “Death to Khamenei, damned be Khomeini,” “Death to the youth-killing government,” and “Death to the dictator.”

Freedom-loving Iranians and MEK supporters also held protest rallies in European countries and condemned the execution of three protesters in Iran.

Furthermore, Agnes Callamard, Secretary General, Amnesty International condemned this brutal executions and said: “Majid Kazemi, 30, Saleh Mirhashemi, 36, and Saeed Yaqoubi, 37 were executed today. For protesting. Our thoughts go out to their families and friends. The Islamic Republic of Iran uses death penalty to instill fears, to quash dissent. Unconscionable.”
