Iran: Student Protests Erupt in Tehran After Murder of University Student

Student Protests in Tehran, Iran – February 2025

Tehran, Iran – February 15, 2025: Protests at the University of Tehran have entered their second consecutive day following the murder of Amir Mohammad Khaleghi, a 19-year-old student, near a university dormitory. Students have taken to the streets, condemning the authorities for negligence and chanting slogans such as “Death to Khamenei” and “University security is a tool of the IRGC, you are our murderers!”

Tensions escalated on Friday when security forces prevented students from joining their fellow protesters at the dormitory entrance. Clashes broke out as demonstrators confronted the guards, chanting “Dishonorable, dishonorable!” In response, the regime deployed Special Unit forces and plainclothes agents around the male and female dormitories to suppress the protests.

On Saturday, students continued their demonstrations, demanding accountability from university officials. They chanted:

Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, President-elect of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), voiced support for the protests, stating that insecurity in Iran is a direct result of the regime’s oppressive policies. She called on the Iranian people to stand in solidarity with the student movement, emphasizing that “silence is no longer an option.”

The protests at Tehran University reflect a broader wave of discontent among Iranian youth, who have increasingly challenged the government’s authority in recent years.
