Iran Uprising Day 16 Report

On Monday, January 12, 2026, the sixteenth day of Iran’s nationwide uprising saw widespread confrontations between rebellious youths and regime forces across Tehran, Kermanshah, Isfahan, and other major cities. Despite an undeclared martial law and snipers positioned on rooftops, protesters in Isfahan’s suburban areas — from Najafabad and Falavarjan to Sepahanshahr and Baharestan — remained in control. Several regime institutions, including banks and a city council building at Simin Intersection and Malekshahr, were set ablaze by demonstrators.

Nighttime Clashes Escalate Nationwide

As night fell on January 12, clashes intensified in Izeh and Ahvaz, where anti-regime youths battled IRGC special units. Heavy street fighting swept Kermanshah late into the night, while Mahdasht saw ongoing hit-and-run skirmishes between protesters and regime forces.

Morgue Atrocities and Sunday Defiance

In Tehran, Karaj, and Bandar Abbas, morgues overflowed with slain protesters’ bodies piled in courtyards and warehouses, families summoned under heavy security for identification. Kahrizak officials demanded 700 million tomans per body release. On January 11, Quchan youths seized the governor’s office and torched IRGC headquarters; Babol protesters disarmed two police stations; Ilam locals killed IRGC officer Rahimi. Tehran districts (Punak, Aryashahr, Haft-howz, Sadeghieh) and Mashhad saw hit-and-run battles and Basij base arson.

Maryam Rajavi Condemns Massacre

Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, President-elect of the NCRI, described the regime’s crackdown as a “major crime against humanity.” She noted the regime’s desperate move to display bodies on state television to blame violence on opponents. “The bodies of Iran’s freedom fighters have filled hospitals and morgues,” Rajavi stated. She emphasized that the high death toll signals Khamenei’s weakness, not strength: “This time, Khamenei and the violent forces defending him will be drowned in the sea of blood they have spilled from the people of Iran.”

The Secretariat of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) stated that the scope and intensity of the protests reflect growing public anger and determination to resist the regime’s ongoing repression.
