Brussels: Freedom-Loving Iranians Mark Second Anniversary of Iran’s 2022 Uprising

Brussels, September 14 , 2024

On Saturday, September 14, members of the Iranian community in Belgium, supporters of the Iranian Resistance, gathered in Brussels to commemorate the second anniversary of Iran’s 2022 uprising.

The rally featured speeches by figures such as former MEP Paulo Casaca, former MP Serge de Patoul, and Manel Meslami, President of the Women’s Group of the Liberal Party in Brussels.

Representatives from Iranian youth and women’s associations, human rights activists, families of execution victims, and members of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) also spoke. An exhibition showcased the 2022 uprising.

The demonstrators backed the “No to Execution” campaign, urging the international community to hold the Iranian regime accountable for crimes against humanity. They highlighted the surge in executions under President Masoud Pezeshkian and the regime’s growing reliance on the IRGC to maintain power.

A resolution read at the event condemned Supreme Leader Khamenei’s violent suppression of dissent and referenced UN reports labeling the 1980s and 1988 massacres as genocide. The resolution called for international prosecution of Iranian leaders.

Protesters also demanded the closure of Iranian embassies, citing the regime’s terrorist plots in Europe, including attacks on NCRI offices and an assassination attempt on Professor Alejo Vidal-Quadras. They voiced support for Mrs. Maryam Rajavi’s Ten-Point Plan, which calls for blacklisting the IRGC, enforcing UN resolutions on Iran’s nuclear program, placing Iran under Chapter 7 of the UN Charter, and recognizing the Iranian people’s struggle to overthrow the regime.
