Global Solidarity: Iranian Resistance Supporters Commemorate the Fifth Anniversary of the November 2019 Uprising

On November 14-16, 2024, supporters of the Iranian Resistance and freedom-loving Iranians around the world gathered in 40 cities across 16 countries to commemorate the fifth anniversary of the November 2019 uprising. This global movement aimed to honor the memory of over 1,500 protesters who lost their lives during the regime’s brutal crackdown while also calling for solidarity with the ongoing struggle for freedom in Iran.

In Washington, D.C., Iranian Americans rallied outside the White House, chanting slogans such as “What do we want? Regime change in Iran!” They demanded a decisive shift in U.S. policy towards Iran, urging support for the Iranian people’s organized resistance.

Similar gatherings took place in Los Angeles and San Francisco, where participants honored the victims of the November 2019 protests through a poignant photo exhibition that highlighted the regime’s ongoing repression. At UC Berkeley, an exhibition on November 15 further showcased the sacrifices made by martyrs of the uprising.

In Toronto, Canada, freedom-loving Iranians and supporters of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) held a rally on November 14 to commemorate the victims of the uprising. The participants called for international solidarity and a firm stance against human rights abuses by the Iranian regime. Additionally, protests were held in Ottawa and Vancouver, reflecting widespread support across Canadian cities.

Across Europe, cities such as Brussels, Amsterdam, Geneva, and Paris hosted rallies on November 16, where protesters denounced the regime’s crimes and celebrated the resilience of the Iranian people.

In Germany, extensive rallies took place in cities like Cologne, Düsseldorf, Hamburg, Frankfurt, Stuttgart, Hanover, Essen, and Munich on November 15 and 16, highlighting the atrocities committed by the regime. Demonstrations in Copenhagen and Aarhus emphasized global support for Iranian resistance, while events in Lugano and Oslo honored the martyrs of the uprising.

In addition to these major cities, protests were held in other locations including Vienna, Stockholm, Gothenburg, Bremen, and more.

In Australia, participants gathered in cities like Melbourne and Sydney.

In London, supporters of NCRI and Iranian expatriates gathered to remember those killed during the protests, calling for an end to the regime and demanding accountability from international bodies regarding its actions. A similar rally occurred in Vienna, where participants condemned the Iranian government’s crimes.

These international efforts coincided with acts of defiance within Iran itself, where MEK Resistance Units marked the anniversary with graffiti campaigns and other forms of protest. This reflected a strong determination among Iranians to overthrow their oppressive regime despite significant risks.

The rallies and exhibitions served as a powerful reminder of the enduring legacy of the November 2019 uprising. They underscored that the memory of those who sacrificed their lives for freedom continues to inspire resistance against oppression. The message from these global events was clear: now is the time for meaningful international action to support the Iranian people’s quest for freedom and democracy.
